Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 2hHad Restore not fielded a candidate, Reform would have won. So still a concern, despite the Labour improvement. Good to see Kemi's Tories winning again. 000
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 2hReform had respectability? Must have missed that. But looking for a nanosecond is almost impossible at the best of times. 010
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 7hWouldn't surprise me if we are now essentially seeing the real Jenrick and prior to that, he was just saying what he thought people wanted to hear. 000
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 15hIt's a superb album. One of the first I purchased as a teenager. And still a pleasure to listen to. 020
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 15/10/2026Yet getting on for 30% of Germans support this hypocritical Nazi. I like Germany a lot, learnt German at school (and I'm relearning now) and have visited numerous times. But, I'm starting to really worry about how Germany is moving rightwards. I expected better, based on my experiences. 010
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 15/10/2026Always good to see Marina Purkiss making Jeremy Vine look daft. 030
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 15/10/2026In Trumps case, people's nostrils might be in for a nasty shock too! 😁 030
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 15/10/2026They reflect a significant segment of people, whose racism has moved across generations within families. Reform has helped make those people bolder in being openly racist and social media has amplified their reach/voices. And many are "working class" people who've always loathed Labour/progressives. 030
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 15/10/2026An official Reform spokesman couldn't get away with this type of framing. There would be at least some challenge. 020
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 15/10/2026Indeed, it's not as if the Russians (as Soviets) don't have form. 010
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 14/10/2026I wish the Government would make this point more forcefully. 040
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 14/10/2026The flipside is that quite a lot of people also complain about the costs of gifts and the food at these markets. Personally, you expect to pay a bit more to visit them. If people don't want to pay, then they do become unviable. People can't have it both ways. 160
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 14/10/2026She seems to be Teflon, like Farage. And the French will likely elect her as President next year. Europe is possibly going to destroy itself by its stupidity and poor choices. I include the UK in this. Nothing concrete is being down to tackle populism, misinformation and the daily shit stirring. 271
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 14/10/2026This is appalling, if correct. I do worry about what Musk might do in the US midterms. Will the alleged DOGE data sweeps have an impact. 030
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 14/10/2026A lot of Brits won't touch a significant proportion of these roles. If you compulsorily appoint Brits to jobs after say 3 months of unemployment, there would be less need for immigrant workers. But that would likely cause havoc in the job market, as many would be unsuitable for the roles. 020
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 14/10/2026He was pushing this yesterday. And Sophie Raworth adding a couple of comments to suggest it may be a long running issue. Disappointing from her. I always stupidly thought the BBC was meant to accurately report the news, rather than indulge in speculation or push personal views. 040
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 13/10/2026A case of greed being her achilles heel....taxi has arrived..... 040
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 13/10/2026Without a job she may have to live a more spartan life....gets coat.... 130
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 13/10/2026Markov is awful, if it's the person I think it is. And his narrative is rarely challenged. 020
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 13/10/2026It's fortunate that there is the Reform/Restore dimension to split the vote. But I do hope the main progressive parties do more to take them on. The "Patriots" in particular are a nasty presence in communities. 000
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 13/10/2026Nastiness and stupidity. It has always been in society, but it's in the open now. Amplified on social media. Whether the percentages supporting this rhetoric have always been there, I don't know. But it's awful. And part of the stupidity is the decent majority letting it go on with little pushback. 000
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 13/10/2026Time for The Times to honestly set out how the existing social model would have to change, if immigration is reduced, with a smaller active workforce and decimated health and care sectors. I suspect it won't be pleasant reading, especially for older folk "who paid in". 020
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 12/10/2026You would have thought that as a senior soldier, he would understand the fragility of human life. Clearly not. 110
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Interesting that Andy Burnham says the result was not affected. Maybe so. But I suspect it would perhaps have been a nearly 50/50 split than 52/48. 020
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 12/10/2026And a lesson for me during the miners strike was that a significant segment of the "working class" were not Labour or Trade Union supporters. And we see that much of the support Reform and Restore get is from "working class" people who will never vote Labour. 000
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 12/10/2026And it goes across the traditional "class divides" while offering the support to those who need it most. How to pay for this is of course a challenge and it would probably require a transition to a more northern European social model. 110
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 12/10/2026It will also look to support people in thriving in adulthood through safe and rewarding workplaces, quality public services and utilities, a supportive housing market, ongoing personal/employment development etc. And a focus on later life support. All of this should be beneficial to the country. 100
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Labour should be a party that campaigns for all working people. It's values should state that it will fight for everyone to have a safe, stable start to life (quality health, housing, parental support, education etc.) then support education/development, again with positive interventions. 100
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Trump will soon be announcing a bot farm ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. 060
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 12/10/2026What makes me so angry about her is that she has clearly always been capable of some rational and honest thinking. Yet during her time in Congress, she behaved like a vile lunatic. While it's helpful she is calling Trump out now, there should never ever be full redemption for her. 020
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Truly sickening. I know there are bots/trolls, but there are thousands of comments. I didn't want to scroll down for long, but there are so many ghouls posting. And most do not realise this happened off the coast of East Africa. 000
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 11/10/2026When you see these sorts of unhinged headlines, you do wonder what might be uncovered if there was a drugs raid on the Express offices. 010
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 11/10/2026This has all been done so Trump can tell his MAGA base that Zelensky is responsible for the high diesel price, by bombing Russian refineries. Complete rubbish of course. But his base will believe him. And no doubt he'll punish Ukraine in other ways too. 030
Jonty @jonty24.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Facebook is a real cesspool of bigots and balaclava supporting idiots now. And the rhetoric is getting dangerous now. I don't like the idea of censorship, it is getting to the stage where the government should intervene with Facebook and others. 180
