I promise I won't spam the feed with my stolen art, but I wanted to share this one because I enjoyed painting it. I used black watercolors on toned paper, something I hadn't tried before. (There is a Leyendecker watercolor that made me want to try this combo of materials) "Nocturne"

I must have one somewhere. When I went on holiday with my parents to Spain I used to swap drawings of John Lennon for bottles of chocolate milk in the cafes we went to. I remember seeing one pinned up behind a bar. I wonder if any remain 40 years on.

I think I was 20 when she first appeared and she was just 22/23. I wasn’t expecting her to look so young after hearing the records. I can remember vividly hearing Dress and Sheela Na Gig for the first time.

That’s him! He had a coffee van on the park opposite our house one summer. When I got talking to him I realised we had a lot in common. I was amazed to find out he was a Viz contributor. He’s very funny!

AI must have affected concept work. Like you said it’s not a benefit to people like us it’s only a benefit to people who commissioned us. The economic climate is to blame too. A friend of mine who runs a games company was told by an economist that “money is a lot more expensive these days”.

20 years ago a £500 illustration job would pay almost a years energy or council tax. Now it wouldn’t even pay 2 months council tax. Fees haven’t really risen in the 30 years I’ve been working.

I think in my case it’s more cost of living than AI. A lot of my online sales were overseas but Brexit decimated that. Print fairs are still worth doing and I think people like to meet the person behind the art. That’s something AI can’t take away (for now!).

Same here. Quietest I’ve know it in 25 years. Online sales at the lowest in 10 years too. I was speaking to people at the weekend and everyone had the same story. It’s not your work. It’s the current climate.

Went for a walk at dusk and saw a black chicken walking past the churchyard. Surely this is the beginning of an old European folk tale? Like a subtitled 1970s Czech animation that Channel 4 used to show in the 1980s.
