I, Robot was was the first story in a series of robot stories by Eando Binder (Earl and Otto) published between 1939-1942 in Amazing Stories. Aside from a little harmless title-borrowing, the stories clearly inspired Asimov as they contain a lot of elements that would be later used by him.

I wonder if all book titles are decided this way. (From James Gunn's book on Isaac Asimov, on choosing the title of I, Robot). 📚🪐. 📚💙
Screenshot from book: "In 1950, when Martin Greenberg of Gnome Press was preparing to publish the book, Greenberg dismissed Asimov's suggested title, Mind and Iron (a phrase used in the introduction), and suggested I, Robot. Asimov said that was impossible because of Binder's earlier story. "Fuck Eando Binder," Greenberg said, and I, Robot it was."

Someone tried to argue with me the other day that Star Trek was mostly Kirk sleeping around with strange alien women. Granted, there's a lot of that, but there's so much more. #startrek #TOS #hornyKirk

The list of worthwhile zombie movies before George A Romero is embarrassingly short. I Walked With a Zombie (Jacques Tourneur, 1943) is one of the few that deserves mentioning.

This made my day (albeit a day late!)
joke academic article suggesting that authors could cover the cost of their publication fees by including ads in their articles.

Interesting quote from "Science Fiction in the 20th Century" by Edward James.
Quote from book: "Kirk and Spock alone may account for a hitherto unknown phenomenon in the history of fandom: the fact that the majority of Trek fans were, and are, women. (It was the discovery, very early on, that many women found Spock fascinating that led to the decision not to drop him from the series-because of a fear that Americans would find his 'devil's ears' upsetting-but instead to 'promote' him in Kirk's team from number four to number one.28) The appeal of Star Trek to women had considerable importance for the growth of a role for women in sf, as writers and readers, during the 1970s and 1980s. Star Trek almost certainly intro- duced more women to sf than did the slow emergence of femi- nist sf, which occurred at the same time as the growth of Trek fandom, in the first half of the 1970s. "

Somehow stumbled into this tweet lol. This is the same guy who few weeks ago published an article in Nature about how chatgpt lost all his work. I feel like the word "assisted" does a lot of heavy lifting there.
