Jon @jonkatora.bsky.social · 12/08/2026Ive been on deployments that have been extended and have heard of stuff like this. That doesn't diminish what's happening on the Lincoln. Its right to report on this Saying this is unique though diminishes the mental and emotional toll of any deployment in any branch of service. 070
Jon @jonkatora.bsky.social · 12/08/2026There's a building science lesson here. If Gladiator panties last in Mediterranean conditions for thousands of years, perhaps we shouldn't judge modern material longevity against Roman buildings? 010

Jon @jonkatora.bsky.social · 11/08/2026While Id love to see the extra $$$ for long term repairs I still can't help but want gov to still tax HOAs who dont take their reserve funds seriously. Perhaps a credit for those over a certain %. Taxes should cover the 'oh shit fund' for poorly managed HOAs. 000

Jon @jonkatora.bsky.social · 03/08/2026I've had luck with shitty suspension, tires, and brakes (for commuting not enthusiast). But it's OEM for sensors, fluids, etc. Maybe I've just been lucky though. 000
Jon @jonkatora.bsky.social · 03/08/2026Price is the biggest factor for these units. An outdoor unit + tank is going to run you $8-10k before import fees and shipping. At that price, the outdoor unit better be doing something else as well. 000
Jon @jonkatora.bsky.social · 03/08/2026So you wont get dehumidification with A2W for sure, but the plus is the unit is completely self contained. All you have to do is screw in NPT fittings for the cooling/heating lines. I feel your pain with refrigerant. DIY'd my HVAC unit and ended up calling a pro because I couldn't hold vacuum. 100

Jon @jonkatora.bsky.social · 23/07/2026Thats not a good thing. Those wear items exist, but they're now integrated into modules that cost hundreds or thousands of dollars. An HVAC knob should be a couple bucks, not integrated integrated infotainment which costs thousands to repair. 200
Jon @jonkatora.bsky.social · 23/07/2026100% agree, but it doesn't need to be that way. Components that try to do everything are great for manufacturing, but make repair more expensive when they get damaged. Manufactures can design cheaper replacement parts. Right to repair should include cheap parts as well as access to infom 120

Jon @jonkatora.bsky.social · 23/07/2026Other example is I replace the entire front end on my 2007 Honda Odyssey, tie rods, CV Axels, Struts, brakes and rotors, wheel hubs and control arms. Cost me $1250 for all those parts. EVs all need this equipment too, but would it be as cheap? I honestly dont know. 000
Jon @jonkatora.bsky.social · 23/07/2026Maintenance stuff is always going to be cheaper on an EV, but major damage is a different story, especially in newer vehicles. Its not a guarantee what design path slate is going to take. 010
