It’s a joke that was funny for five seconds, but definitely not five weeks.

Ooh which one have you got? My father in law has one in the US and it gets into all sorts of pickles, falling down stairs, sucking up power cords etc

I have to say it’s quite addictive. Not sure I’ll beat my 24 PB

Yes that’s the one! I had a friend whose parents were market researchers and so he had literally every toy and game under the sun. I really remember this one!

Are the spares available from Kenwood or on the secondary market? I find it amazing spares are available!

I don’t think it had held up that well when I watched it 40-odd years ago! Am I right in remembering people emerging from the fog with worms wriggling through their faces?!

Somehow my parents let me rent The Fog when I was far too young, and I then had nightmares for weeks..!

Sounds like the reverse is a writable surface in a way that standard inkjet photo paper is not?

That’s pretty astonishing. Much food for thought. Nice to chat to you - I’m glad you were happy to use your efficiency gains to reply!

Thanks. All very interesting. I presume an employer is happy to pay because they can see the productivity benefit (although the article indicated bosses are suddenly realising this costs a lot and the benefits aren’t 100% clear), but if asked to guess what % more efficient would you say you are now?

Jonathan Frewin @jonfrewin.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
I also wonder what sort of cost is involved for these long-time horizon activities that you describe. Do you think the process is making you more efficient, or runs the risk of doing yourself out of a job? Sorry for all the questions

Jonathan Frewin @jonfrewin.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
That’s fascinating. I think you said previously you have access to several different models concurrently. Is that a cost borne by your employer? I saw a headline today indicating that the costs of the compute being carried out by agents is something companies are latterly thinking about.

What was it that brought about your shift in perspective, if you don’t mind me asking? Successfully working through a thorny and rare medical issue with a family member’s care team, backed up by following along with a free tier AI was a big moment for me.

I have to say it is my first port of call for technical assistance these days. The AI does that leg work very efficiently, though also rather plagiaristically.

I recently booked tickets for the stage version of Abigail’s Party after I saw a Facebook ad for it. I have seen ads for the show countless times since, which must have cost the production company close to what I paid for my initial ticket.

It’s always striking when one sees those relics these days. I was walking past a cafe in W1 recently that still had pavement marks outside to show how far apart people queuing outside had to wait from each other!

This is really interesting. Surprisingly strong evidence that minimal exposure to sugar in a child’s early years could lead to significantly lower risk of developing cancer in later life, as well as slower biological aging! theconversation.com/babies-born-...

Babies born under sugar rationing grew into adults with lower cancer risk
Britain’s postwar sugar rationing was an accidental experiment. Decades on, it’s revealing how early diet shapes cancer risk, ageing and eating habits for life.

This is lovely Steve - thanks for sharing. Not quite the same but you’ve reminded me of a song I’d not heard in years - Moe Serdce by Splean, which I was introduced to by an enthusiastic guide taking me and a group of fellow students around Moscow and St Petersburg in 2002. It’s still a great tune!
