Thank you for all the kind messages & sharing your stories 💚. I am turning off the comments because some of you are fucking weird and/or blaming me. I’ve had to advocated for myself for every medical issue seeking 3+ opinions each time. It takes time & money. I did this all while getting a PhD.

Person one: Taught my kids how socialism works. Let them trick or treat while I stayed home. Then took all their candy. Socialism 101.

Person two : The socialism part is where the community came together and fed your kids for free. The capitalism part is where you made them do all the work and stole from them.

Flu: Older adults who are immunocompromised should opt for high-dose flu shot, provides an “extra boost” of protection. At pharmacy, simply explain your situation & ask for higher-dose shot. Some pharmacies may also have mRNA shots, which are approved for people 50 and older, available.

One of the most harrowing things about academia, when you're a grad student, is how vulnerable you are to how you're perceived by more senior researchers. Your career advancement depends on confidential letters of reference & private discussions amongst faculty. You have no information or control.

This creates absolute minefields for anyone who is a member of an underrepresented group: racism, sexism, and bigotry that you never even know about can absolutely tank your career. All it takes is for an influential senior person to say "I don't think they're very good" or "they're not serious."
