I had my first date with Nancy 29 years ago. As I left she gave me the manuscript of her book ofstories about Damascus. When I got to the story about the prisoner being released from Saidnaya prison and taking a taxi home to his family, I cried and I knew she was the one. 29 years ago.

Hama in Syria has just fallen. It is the fourth largest city in Syria. More important, it is the city where Assad's father in 1982 bombed a popular revolt, killing about 40,000. This is of enormous symbolic importance and it opens the road from Aleppo to Damascus.
