Halloween II with the kiddo tonight. He thought the first one was more funny than scary when we watched it last year, but he enjoys the lore and technical aspects. I’m a Halloween II defender and I love the twist it added to the franchise. #horrorsky #filmsky #horror

I can’t believe I didn’t catch this as a kid. I immediately recognized him as “Fedora” from the Last Crusade. In the original script, he was meant to be Abner Ravenwood, Marion’s father and Indy’s mentor. #moviesky #filmsky

I rewatched 1-4 of the Friday the 13th movie last year, I will rewatch the rest this year. Part V tonight!

Look at these two legends on the screen together: a young Jonathan Pryce and the amazing Jason Robards. I’m really impressed that Disney made such a dark and creepy movie like this back in 1983. #filmsky #horrorsky

The time I spent $90 on skunk odor products bc my dog took a direct spray to the face at midnight, got into our home, ruined about $1k worth of stuff, & it took a month (& 15 baths) to get the odor out of the house. But that’s ok. I now go out with her for her night trips & skunks are still cute.

Re-Animator deserves its classic status. The Faculty was as great as I remembered too. Next: I’m a big fan of Ray Bradbury’s classic book, but have never watched Disney’s film adaptation, which I’ve heard very good things about over the years. #filmsky #halloween #horror

Watching The Faculty with the older kiddo tonight. I was a year younger than him when this came out and watched it probably twenty times on VHS. I haven’t seen it since I was a kid either, so really enjoying this walk down memory lane. #filmsky #horror

I liked The Purge way more than I expected. I’ve always been advised to avoid the sequels. Onto Re-Animator tonight. I’m very familiar with it, but again, it’s a classic I’ve never watched in full. #horrorsky #filmsky

What Lies Beneath was great with both Pfieffer and Ford at the top of their game. Pretty underrated movie, I’d say. Now onto The Purge (2013). I love Ethan Hawke, but never got around to watching any movies in this series. #filmsky #horrorsky

Up next: What Lies Beneath (2000). I saw this in theaters around age 14 and rented it again after it came out. I haven’t seen it since then, although I weirdly remember quite a bit. #filmsky #horrormovies

Shaun of the Dead tonight. Not new to me. I watched this one probably a dozen times (or more) when it originally came out in theaters and on DVD… but giving it a watch with my son tonight. It REALLY holds up. #horror #filmsky

I’m shocked at how good Phantasm was. I was culturally aware of The Tall Man, of course, but having never watched it, I had no idea that it was a surreal story of trauma & grief — in particular for men and boys. Pretty ahead of its time for 1979. Up next? John Carpenter’s The Fog (1980). #filmsky

C.H.U.D. was such a great ‘80s creature feature. I would have definitely loved that one as a kid. Now, I’m onto another #horror movie that I always saw at the movie store, but for whatever reason, never rented: Phantasm. #filmsky

Huh. Had no idea that Home Alone was actually a C.H.U.D. reunion for John Heard and Daniel Stern. #moviesky

Really enjoyed Longlegs. For #3, onto a cult classic that I often saw in the movie store as a kid, but never pulled the trigger on renting it: 1984’s C.H.U.D. #horror #filmsky

Lord of Illusions was enjoyable but, yeah, also pretty bad. I’d still love to see Bakula reprise the role… maybe in the next Hellraiser movie. Onto a newer one tonight: Longlegs. Other than Nic Cage giving a batshit performance, I know almost nothing about it. #horror #filmsky

Jonathan Burdick @jonathanburdick.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
Ebert was a fan. Observations: Scott Bakula is like a paranormal investigating John McLane. It seems like they wanted his Harry D’Amour to be a franchise character possibly (like the stories). Fun fact: Barker intended for this to be the same fictional universe as Hellraiser. #filmsky #moviesky

Doesn’t seem that long ago I was in Halloween horror movie mode. It’s time again. This year, I’m also working on a story about #horrormovies and why we like them. I’m also going to specifically watch those horror #movies I somehow missed over the years. First up: Clive Barker’s Lord of Illusions.

Google was incorporated on this day in 1998. Here’s how Google described themselves in those early months. (And now nearly 30 years later, I’ve been on a mission to de-Google my digital life)

Roger Ebert liked Jennifer’s Body. He gave this (often misunderstood) movie 3 out of 4 stars. I love going back and reading his reviews — even when I disagreed. There was and is no film critic like him. #HATM

Mushrooms are so cool, because, like, this mushroom in my yard could be delicious. Or it could cause organ failure and kill me. And I can’t tell the difference.

Since I first saw it, I think about the stop-motion horror movie Mad God like… once a month. An unbelievable, bizarre passion project that took THIRTY YEARS to make. It makes me sad that I know very few people who’ve watched it. #filmsky #moviesky

That Media Play was AMAZING. As a kid, my dad would drop me off there and then come pick me up hours later. But no, I want to say Media Play closed down around 2006ish? This place was a smaller local joint right near there though (circled). The Media Play was by Lowe’s. #HATM

When I was a teenager, I saw *a lot* of really bad movies in the dollar theater. This is the only movie I’ve ever walked out in the middle of though. Considering the insane talent involved, I sometimes wonder if it’s as bad as I remember.

Here’s Riley’s self-portrait (in the Heinz History Center collection). Painting was a skill many didn’t know he had. After a painting of Edwin Drake was displayed publicly, the Erie Daily Times wrote, “This is unusually interesting since the artist made no pretension of being an artist.” #artsky

My latest is about Edwin Garnet Riley. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette called him the “poet-historian” of Pennsylvania’s Oil Region. “I have seen men rise to affluence and office and then be reduced to abject poverty over night,” he said. #history #skystorians #writing www.eriereader.com/article/edwi...

Snapped these of the floating community on Horseshoe Pond at Presque Isle State Park in Erie, PA. Houseboats here date back to the 1890s. These 24 are grandfathered in. I’ve always been fascinated by them (and it’s actually the setting of a novel that I’ve outlined). #writing #writingcommunity

I had an aunt (my great-grandfather’s sister) who lived to 109. She was born in 1892 and died in 2002. Up until her final weeks, she remained pretty with it and aware. The older that I get, the more it blows my mind. I just think about everything she lived through and saw. #skystorians #history
