I feel like the first time he did it, he was trying (in his head) to say that his critics over gas prices don’t realize the alternative is nuclear annihilation. But his brain doesn’t work and he didn’t actually say that and said the other thing, which, as you pointed out, got cheers.

Would love for him to start digging into lesser known SoCal cities. “Let them hit Garden Grove. Imagine they hit. Just let them hit West Covina—“

The thing is: he probably WOULD like it to happen. He’d get to do more war stuff! But it’s just not what he, in his oatmeal-brained way, said. Also, obviously Iran wasn’t 2 weeks from a nuke or whatever. So the whole thing is stupid. Everything is so stupid.

Look…screw this guy. He sucks. But this video cuts off the “We’re not gonna let that happen. We protect our cities.” I’m of the mind that it doesn’t matter- it’s a scandal to even refer to such a thing. But it’s disingenuous to suggest that he’s saying he wants it to happen. bsky.app/profile/atru...

Found all this, by the way, after seeing Eva Marie Saint (RIP) passed away, and wondering who would now be the oldest living Oscar winner. (Turns out it's probably Lee Grant.)
A Google search for Joanne Woodward, which has one of these A.I. slop videos above the fold – "Try Not To Gasp When You See Joanne Woodward Now!" and A.I. Joanne Woodward is sitting in a wheelchair in front of a dilapidated house.

The videos themselves, from what I can see, aren't A.I. They're just cut up news clips and interviews with the actual people. Nothing original. Utter slop. 27,000 subscribers.

Good A.I. use case would be having a screen next to Trump that translates what he's trying to say: "Those criticizing me for high gas prices would rather let Iran have a nuke? So they [Iran] could blow up one of their blue cities? Gas prices, I believe, are a small price to pay to prevent that."
Trump:

And again, remember, with the word, it's just artificial, it's a little bit high. It's a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe.

They can take out a city. Let them take, let it, let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego. That's, this is a very small price to pay, and it's gonna be over very soon. It's essentially almost over with. And they might keep going a little long, you know? They always say they have a big threshold for pain.

The most sensible statement by a 52-year-old-Republican-cop-median-voter of all time. via apnews.com/article/trum...
Sanchez, a Republican who voted for Trump, blames him, at least in part.

“I think he has a lot to do with it. This war in Iran, the tariffs that he’s placing on other countries, obviously are affecting us. Those two things are things he’s been directly involved in that directly affect the economy,” he said. “I think with Biden, a lot of the stuff was outside of his control. It was all the COVID and how that affected everything else. I don’t think that there was much that he could have done.”

He had high hopes for Trump’s return. Now, things seem worse than under Biden.

One thing about this gutter racism is the ongoing dropping of the facade that this was ever about anything other than gutter racism – their "fundamental preference" for having fewer non-white people around.
Jonathan Keeperman on X: This week, @christopherrufo tackle the Indian Question.

Among other things, this episode cuts to the heart of longstanding foundational political disputes that are simply unreconcilable, but which can longer be brushed aside. Namely that some people (perhaps most people) prefer to live in a homogenous society, and as America tips toward a majority-minority country, that fundamental preference is under threat.

I'm under no illusions about how things are or what the trajectory is. But I'm also excited for the future because that is where I will hang out with the people I care about and do the things I like doing, or haven't done before. Weird but telling that this holds less appeal for much richer people.

"As far as the border is concerned in Texas, the previous administration, it was just open. I don’t agree with all the policies as far as ICE and those kinds of things, but as far as the border itself, I think it’s secure. I’m an immigrant to this country and have a family of immigrants, so this is something I feel strongly about. They really have to focus on cleaning up the legal way to do it. There’s too much bureaucracy in trying to get citizenship legally. And so it’s just becoming politicized."

"It’s definitely a very conservative state. I lived in Texas, and I was in California for 10 years and went back to Texas. It’s conservative, yet tolerant and accepting. There’s a strong resistance against immigration. And it should be legal. That’s how I came in. But at the same time, I think, with all the various cultures and different migration coming in, it has evolved in the last 20, 25 years. I’ve seen it move into a very, very endearing and educated and industrialized direction. But the economy is a big challenge. They’re encouraging manufacturing, which is good. But I need to see more."Focus Group Guy from S08E14 of The Simpsons, desperately trying to make sense of what the assorted children actually want from The Itchy & Scratchy Show.

Oh and to reply to your point: I think the issue is more that he somehow expected things not to change over 40 years. The weather has become worse (we know why) and he groups development with all of that. He clearly doesn't like it, but it seems mostly because it's different than when he was 12.
