Reference is this still from The Secret Garden (1993)! I had totally forgotten about this movie... watched it a bunch as a kid but didn't understand anything except that there was a really cool looking key in it 😭

![A comic titled "Neat Things: Coast Redwoods"
I recently visited Muir Woods, home to an old growth coastal redwood forest with trees over 500 years old and up to 100 meters tall!
[Girl is standing in the middle of a redwood forest with an awed expression.]
Redwoods can drink 160 gallons of water PER DAY... and if you have a whole forest, you need a lot of water!!
[Girl offers a redwood tree a glass of water, asking "Thirsty?"]

Instead, water is delivered by...

![KARL! (AKA the famous San Francisco fog that forms due to the particular way land and ocean meets in the area)
[Karl is illustrated as a cloud with a friendly face.]
When Karl arrives on the coast...
[Fog envelops a redwood forest.]
the scale-like upper needles collect moisture...

![...and drip water down to the forest floor! This accounts for 34% of the tree's water per year!
(ALSO APPARENTLY THEY CAN ABSORB WATER DIRECTLY THROUGH THEIR BARK????)
Coast Redwoods can make their own rain... and I think that's neat!
