My February StoryGraph. Expanded repertoire this month thx to @thestorygraph rdg challenges. Some of it has been great- read a terrific nonfiction book about modern art I’d usually never have read- & some of it not so great (currently reading a book that may actually become my 1st DNF book in yrs)
Chart showing readjng stats: 8 books read, 3496 total pages, average rating 3.81. Chart has images of the covers of my 3 highest rated books for the month: Big Little Lies, Rule of Wolves, and Pictures of You. Sky and Sea craft a mosaic of possibilities and pipe dreams I could soar to the heavens Like a wave driving against #ice I could sink to the deep Like a stone dropping through water I could But I won’t Instead I’ll feel black sand tether me to Earth and picture what might have been #vss365
A photo taken at Diamond Beach at the Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon in Iceland. The sky is vivid shades of blue, filled with a wispy layering of white clouds. Dark blue water stretches off to the horizon. In the foreground is the black sand of the beach, almost completely covered by ice blocks (which have broken off of the glacier over time) of all shapes and sizes, in shades of whites and blues. Many of the ice blocks sparkle from the muted sun coming from behind the clouds in the upper right of the photo. Almost in the center of the picture, a single wave is crashing up toward the sky, having broken against some of the ice.

The bottom third of the cover is white, with the title, subtitle and author’s name written on it. All of that writing is in black except for the word complete which is in purple. The top 2/3 of the cover shows of a large, lush tree reflected in water in front of it. Rowton the tree and it’s ref is a large circle with three crisscrossing triangles inside it, the symbol of the Enneagram.

Screenshot of the cover of the book, “Fourth Wing”, by Rebecca Yarros. The background of the cover starts at the top as a pale tan, and then get slightly orange towards the bottom. There is a drawing of a large circle with clouds inside it taking up about 2/3 of the cover. Inside that circle the title the book is printed in all black sans serif all caps, and the drawing of a dragon is located right in the center of the title. Another dragon is towards the top of the circle flying away. Above the title in very small print it says fly or die. The authors name is printed in all caps at the bottom.

Screenshot of the cover of the book, “Personality Hacker: Harness the power of your personality type to transform your work, relationships, and life” by Joel Mark Witt and Antonia Dodge. Background is mostly white, with a block of light blue in the upper third and a small strip at the bottom. The central image in the large white area is a string of lines with circles at the end of them, sort of looking like a subway map, but overall making the shape of a brain. The lines/nodes are grouped into lines composed of four colors: gold, orange, blue, and green. All lines start from a square box at the core of the “brain”, again divided into four triangles inside it each made of one of those same four colors. The title is printed in all caps, sans serif white type in the blue section at the top, and the subhead is in small black sans serif type just above the “brain” in the white section of the book. The authors’ names are in the same black type underneath the “brain”.

Screenshot of the cover of the book, “Pride and Prejudice”, by Jane Austen. The background of the cover is mostly a pale yellow, and two figures are sketched in color - on the left of the cover is a “dandy” of a man, dressed in brown waistcoat and blue vest - classical regency England clothing, and on the right of the cover is a woman in a simple yellow gown, her hair on top of her head. The man is looking down toward the woman in a haughty way, and the woman is staring off idly into the distance. The title is printed in all caps black type near the top of the cover, and the author’s name is in white superimposed on a large black square taking up about the bottom fourth of the cover.

Happy seasonal #caturday
A cat is wearing a red and green Christmas tie, and is being held up for the camera. The cat is mostly cream colored with a white snout, white whiskers, and a light pink nose. His eyes are light hazel. The cat is looking just to the left of the camera, and does not look happy being subjected to this Christmas wear.A grey Russian Blue cat is sitting on a light colored Berber carpet. He is wearing a Santa hat that has a cloth mouse hanging from underneath. The hat is flattening out the cat’s ears so that the cat looks angry. The cat is also staring directly into the camera with his green eyes, adding to the “I’m going to kill you” sense of the cat’s attitude. Note: the cat is not actually angry - this was the sweetest cat ever and he never got angry. Which is part of what makes this photo even funnier.

Screenshot of the cover of the book, “A Court of Thorns and Roses”, by Sarah J Maas. The cover is a mid-shade of red. A large beast, drawn in fanciful swirls and squiggly lines of black ink, fills almost the entire cover. The beast has a wolf-like head, very sharp claws and fangs, and an enormous body. Superimposed over the wild, taking up all but a tiny sliver at the top of the cover and about 1/5 of the bottom, is the title, printed in all caps, serif font and yellow type. Just underneath that, in smaller font, is the author’s name in all caps serif font, white type. There are also small printed references to the author as a NYT #1 author, and a brief pull quote as a review.

The cover is a picture of a cream-colored Labrador retriever puppy, sitting with his head cocked slightly to the right as he looks just off to the right of whoever is taking the photo. It looks like his paws may be dirty. He’s wearing a red cloth collar. He’s sitting on a cream colored carpet, and behind him is a small footrest in brown wood with a cream colored top. Screenshot of the cover of the book, “The Art of Possibility: Transforming Professional and Personal Life”, by Rosamund Stone Zander and Benjamin Zander. The background of the cover is a bright yellow, and most of the type is in a thin-font black. The title, in all caps, is printed about a third of the way down the cover, and the subhead, in smaller type, is printed just above it. A thin line then bisects the cover, underneath that are the two co-authors’ names (each in all caps, Rosamund’s name slightly larger than Benjamin’s). Almost at the bottom of the cover is a promotional review quote: “One of the nost inspfring, pratical, and uplifting books I have ever read. The very act of reading it with an open heart and mind will improve your health!"
-Christiane Northrup. M.D.

The title is also written in very large white cursive script across the cover, set behind the rest of the words on the cover- these words are so large that the only things that fit on the front are the words “Art” and “bility”

Have a great day - curl up (with or without a good book), take a nap, chill out on a chilly morning. No need to feel obligated to seize the day! #caturday
A tabby cat is curled up on a white blanket. She’s on her left side, with her head angled in a sweet way as she naps. Her right front paw is flopped loosely on top of her body, and her tail is curled loosely around the bottom of her body. Screenshot of the cover of the novel, “Outlander”, by Diana Gabaldon. This is one of several versions of this cover. This version is fairly simple: a medium blue background to the cover, with the author’s name (in a pale greenish-grey color) printed in large, all-caps at the top of the cover, and the titled printed (in the same color) very near the bottom. Underneath the author’s name, in small white print, it says “#1 New York Times Bestseller”, and underneath the title, also in small white print, it says “A Novel”. In the center of the cover, between those two sets of print, is a single drawing, in a fiery orange color, of a simple crown with a Scottish thistle “growing” up from within it. Two large leaves of the thistle appear just above the top of the crown, and growing from the center is a single thistle stalk; at the top of the stalk sits the thistle bud, which is largely unopened.

A quokka - the happiest animal on earth, they say - looks up at the camera with its head turned slightly away. So you might say this particular quokka is giving off less of a “happy” vibe and more of a “hmm what are you doing person, and will you please feed me some more of that sweet, sweet grass” vibe. This quokka, like all quokkas, is about the size of a house cat; has bristly but oh-so-soft brown fur, brown eyes, and a brown nose.A rather fat koala is sitting comfortably wedged in the branches of a tree. It is holding on to the trunk of the tree with its left paw, and its right paw is relaxed on its right leg. It is looking straight at the camera. He’s kind of a fat cat, to be honest, but very cute. He’s holding his two front paws in front of him, and you can clearly see his misformed front paw which only has two toes (from which he gets his name). His big green eyes match the green of the couch he’s sitting on. The couch, with a multicolored chair behind it, an ottoman, and a wall unit all show that this is an ordinary living room. This cat clearly has no reason to be alarmed, but that’s not stopping him from worrying.A Russian blue cat is sitting on a Berber carpet, staring straight into the camera. His obviously cruel human mom has put a Santa hat on him. The part of the hat that goes under his chin has a cloth mouse hanging from it. The position of the hat flattens his grey ears outward - those ears, combined with the dead-eyed stare at the camera, makes you think this cat is very NOT HAPPYAn extreme close up of a Russian blue cat with deep green eyes- all you can see is about 2/3 of his face, turned on an angle, with a tan ceiling taking up the upper right quadrant, and part of the upper left quadrant, of the picture. The cat is staring straight into the camera. The picture would make you assume that this cat doesn’t respect personal space, is sitting on the chest of his human as she’s laying in bed, and is staring right at her until she realizes he wants to be petted… and your assumptions would be correct.

When a yawn in progress creates two incredibly perfect photos…
A tabby cat with green eyes and very large white whiskers is on her feet standing in front of the camera. She’s beginning to yawn so her mouth is open but her pupils are so small she looks like she’s scared. That, combined with her open mouth, makes her look like someone has just told her the most shocking news ever. Maybe, for example, that Trump has won the 2024 election.A tabby cat with a white chest is standing in front of the camera. She’s well into a yawn, so her mouth is open wide. She’s got an adorable pink tongue, sharp teeth that remind you she’s a predator (when she’s not sleeping on her mom’s head), and you can practically see her tonsils. Her incredible white whiskers - perhaps her most singularly amazing feature - are splayed and curving upward. Taken as a whole, the image looks as if she’s screaming angrily at the sky… a wise and understandable action, given she knows that Trump won the 2024 election.

Like this one (screenshotted not reposted). Got a follow notif this a.m. Clearly just trying to sell something. Good for you, but not interested, & u don’t get to have access to me or anyone who decides to engage on my page. Just like on my phone, I block telemarketers. Blocketty block block block🤷🏻‍♀️
Screenshot of the profile/feed of an account that just followed me. Profile shows they’re selling bitcoin and all posts are about that. It’s nothing but a digital telemarketer. Block these - don’t just let them keep following you. They should have zero access to your page and to those who engage with you on your page.

This is my girl Aiko. 💜 #caturday
A tabby cat with intense green eyes, incredibly long white whiskers, and four white paws looks at the person taking this picture. You can see part of that person’s body - part of their shirt, shorts, and stretched out legs - but ignore that because it’s the cat that’s beautiful.

I’ve been reliably informed that to build new community here I need to post a few things about myself. So please enjoy this picture, of one of the greatest moments of my life - when Duran Duran smiled right at 57 yo Me because I had a sign that made them laugh. 16 yo Me was beside herself.
Duran Duran lead singer Simon LeBon points at a sign held by a longtime fan who, after 40 years loving the band, finally got a front row seat. Bassist John Taylor is looking away but laughing because he’s been laughing at the crazy lady’s sign since she and her sister first held it up. Not captured is the scream she scrumpt as a result of this moment.
