Luna, Asbury Hall at Babeville, Buffalo, NY. Unfortunately, Britta was not able to convince the rest of the band to dump the setlist songs for the encore and play Marquee Moon instead. Great show, anyway.

Charles Thompson's voice is kind of wrecked, but I still thoroughly enjoyed the Pixies set. Might have helped that they played the album arrangement of "Wave of Mutilation." Actually, they played both for some reason. Indecisiveness, perhaps?

Alabama Shakes, Borderland Festival. First night headliners. I don't know their stuff all that well. Actually that's true of almost every band here. There's only one I know well and they play tomorrow. Anyway, this is a pretty good set so far.

This is the first show I've seen in the new concert venue. Around 2015, IIRC, they knocked the old grandstand down and built an amphitheater on the other side of the parking lots across the street where they could have the big shows. Within a few years, they put this stage all the way on the […]

The last two years of my life have included this new version of following Hank Roberts around, something I did for several years in the mid-90s. I was really lucky to be able to do that in that time and place. I don't think there was anything else close to that happening there. There is a jazz […]

Celebrating the 30th anniversary of my first Phish shows by going to see live music. Last night was sort of a jam band. In the early Pink Floyd/Velvet Underground way more than the Dead. Tonight very much not that.

Spent the day checking out people's food gardens, a nature center, and a community garden on Urban Farm Day. Last year inspired me to double the size of my garden by building raised beds in the front yard. I've met more of my neighbors while working out front in the garden than I had in eight […]

Cleaned up the strawberry bed today. It was very overgrown and I've been having a fruit rot problem. Before the last week, I was getting a pound about every eight days.
A raised bed with several strawberry plants. They're a little crowded in spots. There are more beds in the background, but they're only there because I was too lazy to crop the photo.

Really glad I skipped Phish in Syracuse. It's always a bummer to see the mediocre show they played when they were saving up for the special show. The main reason I skipped is that I'm not sure they're capable of playing a one-off show that's worth traveling for anymore. Or at least not […]
