Ooh, very good point re: Bear + Jackie, that storyline was almost subliminal. So interesting to see a teen-centred show where almost 100% of the sex & romance stories are happening with the adults. We never got a Snagging Season!

Yeah, I feel that—although even that feels intentional? We saw those kids grow from an Us Vs The World mentality after Daniel’s death to a real appreciation of community. From check-ins with the 70s and 90s friend groups to merging the Res Dogs & NDN Mafia, the POV’s expansion felt like a choice.

100%. Maybe the highest praise for the world-building of the show is that so many characters and dynamics feel like they could carry their own project. It has a perfect ending and feels brilliantly complete in the story it was telling, but remains rich with potential for more.

One of the essential "Chicas Almodóvar," Marisa also has memorable appearances in High Heels, All About My Mother, and The Skin I Live In (plus other stuff like Life is Beautiful & The Devil's Backbone). She had a face built for cinema, radiating intelligence, drama, and deadly wit. RIP, diva!

Just learned that Marisa Paredes died last month--right in the middle of TIFF's Almodóvar retrospective, ft many of her most iconic roles. The week before she passed, I watched her as a love-crazed novelist in The Flower of My Secret. The day after, as a masochistic acid queen nun in Dark Habits.
