I was hoping that early October would be before 8th. We don't get back till 19th. Olga is transforming into a florist. Are the dates no good?

It would be great to see you (and travelling companion?). We are around until 8 October when we head off to Uzbekistan for a flower-arranging course Olga is keen to do. It's a longish story. It's not a high-speed train from BCN to VLC, but seems to have quickened up a bit to around 3 hours.

You should complicate things further by extending trip to include a visit to us in Valencia and allow us to return some of the amazing hospitality we enjoyed in Bolivia.

As it happens, Spain's Canal Trece's evening western (it has one or more every day) is Boetticher´s "Horizons West" with Rock Hudson, Robert Ryand and Julie Adams. I'd be surprised if the were aware it was the director's birthday, but who knows.

Time for my annual bit of pedantry that as an adoptee he wasn't born with that name. Also, I kind of think that being adopted (plus that Jr. epithet) may have been part of what took him to to Hollywood and bullfighting and such. Or maybe not.

Not forgetting "sesudo" for brainy.

In El Puig de Santa Maria where they are celebrating the feast of St Francis of Assisi. With bull running.

I get pleasure (& information) from your posts on westerns & all involved. In Spain a religious channel (Canal Trece) shows a western or two daily, generally 1950s B-movies. I've now seen quite a few. This week I tracked down the 1936 "3 Godfathers" thanks to your recommendation. Much appreciated.

I'm always confused when I read that he was both adopted by Oscar Boetticher and born Oscar Boetticher Jr. Apologies for pedantry.

Odd that Dr Sian Barber, expert on film controversy at Queen's, interviewed on BBC Radio 4 Today about auction of Citizen Kane's Rosebud sled for $14.75m, didn't mention association with Marion Davies' clitoris, insisting sled not significant to story. Surely big factor in price.

Thank you for clarification. Enjoying following all that harvest activity from a currently rainy Valencia. Wishing all of you all the best for the vintage.

It's a slippery slope. Of all the exotic Bolivian birds Merlin found, I've a soft spot for the ubiquitous and v loud chingolo común (Andean sparrow). Better than any alarm clock. The 17 birds Merlin identified at San Roque vineyard still stands as my record for one recording. Happy harvesting.

Serial comma more used in US than UK (56% v 25% & 19% don't know yougov.co.uk/society/arti... for people in general). Economist Style Guide "Most American writers and publishers use the serial comma; most British writers and publishers use the serial comma only when necessary to avoid ambiguity..."

If anyone fancies buying an ancient vineyard in the Cinti Valley, Bolivia, there's a small one available. Sadly we just do not have the time, resources nor money to take it over. It would be a shame for it to be abandoned.

I'd wondered since first seeing Nayan's (@vinosity.bsky.social) photos of Jardín Oculto's vines in 2019 whether I might ever see them for myself. With the added bonus that we visited Bolivia, which was amazing from start to finish. This photo conveys the majesty of Jardín Oculto's San Roque vineyard

Not centred, admittedly, but to me the photo conveys the joy at being at last among Jardín Oculto vines and meeting and spending time with María José, Helios and Nayan (a double bonus as he had planned to be away for the holidays).

Nooo. Not the one where I look as if I'm peeing into the irrigation channel. Though it is the only one with everyone (except for Olga) in the pic. Am trying to post a more acceptable one with me, Olga and you.

Excellent. Thank you very much. Must get to grips with Bluesky as my mother has also moved over and I am proving unable to offer much help.

Benedict Cumberbatch isn't the first voice that comes to my mind when thinking of someone to read Alexei Navalny's autobiography "Patriot", but I'll give it a go. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m...
