Liberal-minded anti-brexiteer. Politics, finance, people and not in that order! Opinions painfully my own. Subject to change depending upon evidence - principles rather more fixed. Hopefully aging disgracefully.🔶🇪🇺🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇬🇧

This quote (thank you Bettina) is the essence of why I so admired Burnham’s speech. No one is denying it’s going to be incredibly hard to deliver on his agenda, but the UK will never tackle its problems effectively, if it’s not able to discuss them honestly - on the EU and much else besides.

Hugely dishonest to pass off a sentence for setting off a bomb as "destroying a camera"

Yes, he should have stood up to the Neanderthal cretins in his own party and Farage etc. Burnham has no excuse though, he's not getting Reform voters back and has nothing to lose by excoriating RefUK for their vile abuse. Not to mention of course that Farage created the problem to begin with!

I abhor almost everything Sunak did as PM not least the scorched earth approach in the pre-election budget. But, he is Britain's first PM of South Asian heritage and still represents his Yorkshire constituency. Both things should be celebrated. The abuse he received on Yorkshire Day was shameful.

Yes. In their desperate bid to appear impartial but also, somehow, Farage-friendly, the BBC ends up promoting, unchallenged, the rancid ignorance and vested interests of the smug, tax-dodging super-rich. Seriously, sod off Ratcliffe, Dyson, Rothermere, Ashcroft, Lawson….

I wonder if the DM will re-run their infamous 1930s headline? Bet they don't complain about two-tier justice though when comparing the treatment of these thugs with that of climate protesters. I'd imagine the Port of Dover is rather more important in infrastructure terms than the M25...

Iceland is not in the EU, but it is a member of the Schengen area. It’s also a member of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and is part of the Single Market, meaning it enjoys freedom of movement with the EU. Good to know that doesn’t impact their independence. Maybe we should try it, Nige.

Congratulations to Iceland on voting to keep their independence.

Fuck, way too soon. His Dr. Frank-N-Furter inspired my costume for a "Seven Deadly Sins" Xmas party back in 2000. A legendary performance from him, one of many. He will be very sadly missed, the world is a little less colourful now.

Triggering a vanity by-election was a blatant attempt by Farage to dodge being held to account. Our ‘Clacton Clause’ would stop a stunt like this being pulled ever again. A sitting MP under investigation should never be able to weaponise a by-election escape scrutiny.

Problem is that that is all it takes for client media to befuddle likely Reform-curious voters. The Farage Boats will only be deterred by our having access to the Dublin Convention again - the very mechanism the 52% voted against without realising it.

Kerry's solicitor would have a field day should any newspaper/media outlet do anything as remotely moronic as giving into Farage's demands. Police/CPS would be reduced to begging Kerry to plead guilty to manslaughter under diminished responsibility to avoid the chance of a derailed trial.

Believing Michael Gove - now that's a good one. More seriously, we need to start negotiations to rejoin and then put any agreement to another referendum. At least then there will be a measure of honesty given what has now been the experience of brexit and a resounding "Yes" to rejoin!

Growing up in the 70s I was into the usual heavy rock stuff (Zep/Purple/Sabs) but prog was really my thing. Caravan/Camel/Floyd/Genesis etc, Yes being the crowning glory. Gentle Giant really passed me by (and I still have "Fluid Druid"!) until I adopted Tidal and up they popped. Wonderful stuff.
