heartbreaking: you're more of a cartoon talker than you are frequently making cartoons

These redrawns confuse me so much, were these originally going to be put on retail VHS tapes like the redrawn Li'l Abner shorts? Also I heard that Billy West was included in the voice cast in this redub but I don't know for sure.

watching old 50s H-B has such a nostalgic comforting feeling the rough artistry from the beginning of the studio definitely helps and i have to admit charlie show's dialogue is charming at points

I don’t really remember. I think it might have been agreed that that ad time would go to the bigger network, Cartoon Network. There was probably some part of the agreement that involved both networks. We got Rocky & Bullwinkle for the exchange.

Thanks for responding! I also noticed that the prints Boomerang used to air of Underdog were different compared to the MeTV Toons ones. Do you think the older prints still exist? youtu.be/xpz2WSW4XTY?... youtu.be/vCGJD3NjTJQ?...

@amerrill2.bsky.social Hello! I saw in an old interview you used to be the head scheduler for Boomerang in the 2000s. You mentioned you got shows from The Program Exchange,I was curious how that worked. Boomerang was ad-less and I thought you needed to put General Mills commercials to get the shows.

sad most of columbia's cartoons are only available on Jerry's DVDs, metv encodes, or... totally tooned in (yuck)

Also something to note is that the Yogi segments were restored for HBO Max in 2020 by a different team, so that's why they look different compared to the other cartoons on the set. (Look at the colors, and de-noising)

(Side note, the packaging is really bad. Some discs don't even fit on the spindle.)

So do I recommend this Blu-ray? Yes. If you want the complete series of The Huckleberry Hound Show in probably the best quality it can get in, go get it. But if you wanted this set for the bumpers, you'll be disappointed. I recommend going elsewhere for that. www.youtube.com/@stevenhanso...

If you bought this set for the intros/outros, bumpers, and commercials, you would be disappointed. Most of the segments that were present on the Huckleberry Hound Vol 1 DVD are not here. And worse, many of these included segments endlessly repeat from episode to episode.

(Season 3 intro that is repeated on every single episode)

The set has TERRIBLE encoding. One 3 hour "play all" file is included with the individual episodes. You can really see the compression at some parts.

If you bought this set for the main cartoons themselves, you will not be disappointed. All the main cartoon segments look great. Although there might be a little too much noise in my opinion, which brings into my other point.

The Huckleberry Hound Show Blu-ray Review 🧵

His character, Foghorn Leghorn, is a legendary one and his cartoons are some of the best of McKimson's work.

000

JohnMakesStuff @johnlovescartoons.bsky.social · 28/07/2025

His Bugs cartoons were the most groundbreaking and different, such as Rebel Rabbit and French Rarebit. And you can't forget his wonderful one shots, Early to Bet, Hollywood Canine Canteen, Corn Plastered, and so much more.

I haven't seen anyone really give praise to Robert McKimson's WB shorts made pre 1954. He really made some classics, like his Porky and Daffy team-ups. Daffy Doodles, Boobs in The Woods, and The Prize Pest come to mind.
