When philosophers of mind bring a thrill of first-personal empirical immediacy to their writing with the line 'Consider the object on my desk in front of me as I write this - it's a coffee cup', it should at least come with an asterisk (*nb - this will be the only empirical example in this book).

I keep asking the older fellows of Kings who influenced this or that of Williams’s ideas and their answer is always no one. He only ever was counter-influenced (by his teacher RM Hare for example). This new book puts Alasdair MacIntyre is a major inspiration, good to know. #philsky #ethics
