I built a thing! Command Genius is an application that helps tech-adjacent folks use the command prompt without having to google hard-to-remember codes or terms. github.com/Joh.../comma...

I've built a few things that I haven't shared. Last one was the Bubble Builder for Bksy. Since then, I've built 2 more apps including: iConsent, a global database for people who want to record their consent (or non-consent) to anything, in an ongoing consent chain, ID & public searchable database.

I ran another AI training event, still shocked at who is/isn't touching it. I have to keep telling people that it doesn't matter if you don't like it, you still have to know how to use it. But maybe not...if we see a strong Amish-style anti-tech resistance rise up and birth a new dystopia.

There's a lot of sick people in the USA. And by sick, I don't mean gross or physically ill. I mean, they have a sickness, but they don't know they're sick. They are so injured, and so hopelessly dependent on a system they fight to protect, that they're not capable of being unplugged.

If your company reaches out to me for help with something & then you want me to go through an application process, your success rate will be very low. If you make me go through one of those automated identity checks, your success rate will be zero.

What's the equivalent of working at the ER on a full moon for your office technology? Because whatever that is, it's happening now.

Lived on a lake where this was a problem. "Climate Change" isn't a tangible issue you can address right away, but (IMO more significantly) fertilizer runoff is a major contributor and can be acted on right away! The difficulty is the tangled mess of subsidies from the gov & EPA/Farmer conflicts.

I caught myself singing 'Take me home, country roads' in the shower this am and wondered how many other folks might be doing the same thing at the same time. I figured the answer had to be >1, right?!

But, but... how do you make nachos!?

Yeah, I guess I was thinking about how the combination of cold and the vacuum would allow for larger/quicker heat loss like with a radiator system. I guess it could be fun to try and design a system and see if it would work!

000

John Fiorello @johnfiorello.bsky.social · 05/08/2025

Doesn't seem like a terrible idea. The vacuum probably would make cooling systems very efficient!

I'm moving through the stages of grief, currently at the anger phase. I may be here for a while. Kyrie Eleison Young, healthy, expecting dad, heart attack. I'm so angry.

Built a custom sleep timer for Spotify that fades out and pauses your music after a set time. Just a Chrome bookmarklet — no installs, no extensions. Free to use. Tip me a coffee if it helps you sleep 😴 ☕ github.com/JohnFiorello...

Sometimes AI feels like magic. I wanted someone's software to do something it couldn't do. I went to AI, told it what I wanted it to do, and it helped me build it. Unbelievable.

This is something I wrestle with when trying to bridge entrepreneurial programming with high education environments:

Why won't the fed just lower rates? Just to stick it to the man? Seems like pointless bickering at this point.

I've been able to hold it together fairly well with spending most of my bitcoin on my last startup back in the day. But getting these Robinhood notifications regularly reminding me it's over $100k is getting harder to cope with.

Shipping is broken. UPS charging 50% of the price of shipping for a fuel surcharge!? Amazon has ruined me buying/selling anywhere else.

Shout out to Guitar Center's email marketing crew who give you the option of not just type of marketing you're open to receiving, but the frequency (including monthly or just holidays). This is the way.

I really dislike Google trying to tell me that I need to pay more for their service because they're giving me free access to their AI. I don't want it, I didn't ask for it, and I'd prefer to opt-in (or at LEAST have an opt-out). I guess someone has to pay for it...🤦‍♂️

I received this email and I'm ticked, my wife is pissed. Yeah, thanks for the 'discount' for buying all new thermostats, but why would we stick with Google when they'll probably do the same thing again in 8 years. Home infrastructure is not consumer tech. We own things for decades, not years, right?

I wanted to agree with this tweet, but visited spotify and found that I knew more of their songs than I realized. Not a hall of famer in my book, but turns out they've had more than 1 hit.

I'm working with a #volunteer group to help restore a local volleyball court in North Canaan, CT. We've raised a lot of support and we're almost there, can you help us push us past our goal? We have less than $2k to go! Here's the link to donate (for group 1): shorturl.at/KOjvb

Whenever I see stuff like this, the first thing I always think of is that movie where the wealthy people that knew about a planet-ending asteroid were quitting their jobs so they could spend more time with their family before the end.

I just read a huge thread of people all saying that autism is not a bad thing (or actually a good thing) so there's no need to try and fix it and I'm thoroughly confused. Can crazy hate for a political team get folks to genuinely lie to their eyes? Oh, right, I remember...

I feel bad for a lot of politicians. It seems like it's an acting gig for many of them, but they don't have SAG-AFTRA fighting for them to have breaks where they can be normal. 🥂 to the real ones who don't get tired because they're not actually performing.

John Fiorello @johnfiorello.bsky.social · 16/04/2025

I think we can all agree that we like the law when it works & we don't like the law when it doesn't work. Rico charges are great when we think they're working, but terrible if we think they're being used to target political opponents. In this case, the 'informant' being correct is the lynchpin.

000

John Fiorello @johnfiorello.bsky.social · 16/04/2025

Your comment is interesting. Specifically the second sentence. Based on others comments, they assume the answer is 'yes' and I'm wondering why that is. I'm assuming it's because folks are just looking for the anti-trump wedge. "...trying to export the good guys" really made me think.
