In #ThePublicEnemy (1931), Jimmy Cagney and his brother, played by Donald Cook, are at loggerheads then in #Taxi! (1932), Cagney takes his date to a movie starring Cook. "Isn't he attractive?!" the date asks. Cagney murmurs, "His ears are too big." #Intertextuality #Bantz #FilmSky

If you've just listened to In Our Time discussing #Casablanca (1942) on BBC Radio 4 and want to know what the cast and crew did next, here's my take on its unfairly-maligned follow-up.

I'm watching the film John Dillinger saw before the FBI plugged him outside the movie theater. No Googling - but who knows what it is? #FilmSky

Sam Spade is so sleazy in the pre-Code, 1931 adaptation of The Maltese Falcon he makes Bogart look like an incel. #FilmSky

People who dismiss Flynn as an actor have obviously never seen #TheDawnPatrol (1938) because he's stupendous in a role where he actually has something of an arc. The grim change that comes over his character when he's given responsibility for the lives of his young squadron is incredible. #FilmSky

Why @theguardian.com use lower case letters when it talks about the First and Second World Wars? It feels like they're downplaying their significance to me. Genuine question; anyone know why?

It was brilliant returning to #KingKong (1933) earlier, not least this genius piece of filmmaking that incorporates boxing tactics and wrestling moves. I can't begin to imagine the effect this all had on Depression-era audiences. #FilmSky

That sequence is genuinely clever staging. Holds up remarkably well for 1933.
