If "Never Forget" is supposed to mean anything, it should mean refusing to let grief be weaponized into endless war, collective punishment, and more dead civilians. Remembrance should be a warning against repeating mass violence, not a license to commit it.

John David Rivera @johndavidrivera.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
And in both cases, how much did governments and intelligence agencies know beforehand? What warnings were ignored? And why were catastrophic failures subsequently used to justify wars their victims never chose?

After October 7, we saw this play out again. Collective trauma was turned into a blank check for mass violence, with remembrance used to justify the genocide in Gaza.

"Never Forget" has always been a political strategy used to justify more than 25 years of war, trillions in spending, enormous profits for a handful of defense contractors, and the deaths of millions of civilians.

The Midnight Hour, Downtown San Fernando's only music venue and gathering place for young creatives and progressives, is moving to the NoHo Arts District, a neighborhood with better transit and nightlife. City Hall and the San Fernando City Chamber of Commerce did nothing to keep it here.

One year after San Fernando rejected the light rail, the new City Council has yet to take a single substantive public action to reverse that decision, even as it openly acknowledges that the city needs new revenue, stronger businesses, better infrastructure, and a long-term strategy for its future.

It's unfair to ask voters to act like strategists—gaming out electability scenarios, guessing who is viable before they can vote honestly. If everyone agrees vote-splitting is a problem, then the solution isn't pressuring candidates to leave the race. It's fixing the voting system.

Citizens United protected corporate political spending. Hawaii is questioning why states ever gave corporations that power in the first place. California should follow: use state corporate law to say artificial entities never had power to buy state and local elections.

Reforming the Supreme Court has to be championed by the next Democratic leader. If they're unwilling to say it & do it, then they aren't made for this moment. The 6 corrupt judges won't stop until they undo the progress made in the past 75 years on their way to creating their Christian Kingdom.

More significantly, they lowered the allowed height for 7-10 unit projects from 3 stories to 2. They did this in a sneaky way, by changing a table without noting it changed, even though they track changes in the rest of the document. Look at the right column on the before (left) and after (right).

Stephen A. Smith, whose salary dwarfs the earnings of most athletes, also has a record of inflammatory commentary—including remarks about Shohei Ohtani that reinforced anti-Asian and anti-immigrant tropes. Now, one of the chief architects of the culture has political ambitions. Disturbing arc.
