#5debutalbums0509 Young Knives - Voices of Animals & Men Not seen much love for this one yet. Highly likely to be in my top 5. Post-punkish noise, with humour, right up my street. Brilliant, from start to finish. youtu.be/fulTIh3toMQ?...

#5debutalbums0509 Quick question for the oracle that is @richards7370.bsky.social The Young Knives had a mini album, The Young Knives are dead released in 2002 & Voices of Animals and Men, their 1st ‘full’ album released in 2006. Which one counts as the debut? Thanks, Rich.

#5debutalbums9094 Loads of fantastic albums again, and a brilliant top 20, but we can only choose 5, so here goes 1 Ned’s Atomic Dustbin - GodFodder (5pts) 2 PJ Harvey - Dry 3 Prolapse - Pointless Walks To Dismal Places 4 Fugazi - Repeater 5 Tindersticks Enjoy your weekend, all 🙂 🎵🎸🎹🎧

0330

John Carty @johncarty1.bsky.social · 05/01/2026

#5debutalbums9094 Well, here’s my motley gang of contenders, for what it’s worth. @richards7370.bsky.social does Fugazi’s Repeater count as their debut? 1989’s 13 Songs was a compilation, so it could be argued that Repeater is their first ‘proper’ album. Cheers.

John Carty @johncarty1.bsky.social · 29/12/2025

#5albums25 1 Cardiacs -LSD (5pts) 2 Stereolab- Instant Holograms on Metal Film 3 Sparks-MAD! 4 McLusky-The World Is Still Here And So Are We 5 House of All-House of All Souls Lots of brilliant albums, apologies to the 100s I didn’t have time to listen to. Enjoy!

#5debutalbums7074 The Residents - Meet The Residents (1974) North Louisiana’s phenomenal pop combo (it says, accurately, on the cover). Straight onto my shortlist.

John Carty @johncarty1.bsky.social · 09/11/2025

#5debutalbums1014 I’ve started with 31 albums this time round. Lots of great stuff, many that I can’t recall having heard before (Dead Sea Apes, Amazing Snakeheads, Wrangler, Bo Ningen etc). I’ve definitely missed a few, as well. Thanks for your recommendations, all, much appreciated. 👍😎👏

John Carty @johncarty1.bsky.social · 24/10/2025

Wikipedia says they were known as fashion music, but I’ve got the album and saw them live in 1979, and always knew them as fashion. I must admit it’s a bit confusing. Who the hell knows? 😄

John Carty @johncarty1.bsky.social · 24/10/2025

#5debutalbums8084 The hardest choice, so many brilliant albums (& I missed some): 1 Very Things- The Bushes Scream While My Daddy Prunes (5pts) 2 Teardrop Explodes- Kilimanjaro 3 Eyeless In Gaza- Photographs As Memories 4 Crispy Ambulance- The Plateau Phase 5 The Dancing Did- And Did Those Feet

2391

John Carty @johncarty1.bsky.social · 15/10/2025

#5debutalbums8084 The Very Things - The Bushes Scream While My Daddy Prunes 1984 Oh, yes! This is the real deal. Manic rhythm section, twangy guitars, weird vocals, strange dialogue from early sci fi films/programmes fading in and out. Definitely in my top 5. Exquisite youtube.com/watch?v=46W8...

1163

John Carty @johncarty1.bsky.social · 15/10/2025

#5debutalbums8084 The Mob - Let The Tribe Increase 1983 - if anarcho-punk is your bag (and maybe if it isn’t) you won’t find many better albums than this one. Punchy, catchy, well written songs throughout, it’s an album that deserves more exposure. Brilliant stuff. youtube.com/watch?v=S53A...

John Carty @johncarty1.bsky.social · 15/10/2025

#5debutalbums8084 Section 25 - Always Now Maybe influenced by Metal Box-era PiL, produced by Martin Hannett, there’s lots to like on this Factory release. The drums are to the fore, bass and vocals carry any melody, guitars provide background effects. Worth a listen. youtube.com/watch?v=98AC...

061

John Carty @johncarty1.bsky.social · 12/10/2025

#5debutalbums8084 This is it, it’s the final shortlist, no, I definitely will not be adding any more albums to it, no way, you’ve caught me out on this before. The good news is that I’ve played 32 already, so the whittling down to 10 or so is well under way. What a joyous experience this is.

John Carty @johncarty1.bsky.social · 08/10/2025

#5debutalbums8084 Crispy Ambulance - The Plateau Phase Yet another classic debut album from this period. Not the best cover, but the music is glorious. On Factory records. This is Travel Time: youtube.com/watch?v=WU8j...

#5debutalbums8084 I keep mistyping this bloody hash tag. Anyway, initial shortlist is up to 34 flippin’ brilliant albums. Please don’t tell me I’ve missed any out, good folk (I undoubtedly will have) 🙉

John Carty @johncarty1.bsky.social · 06/10/2025

#5debutalbums0004 This one will be the most difficult for me. Perhaps 1978/79 will run it close. I’ve left out at least half a dozen, and my shortlist is still overflowing. Stop reminding me of albums I’ve inadvertently missed, everybody! 🙉

John Carty @johncarty1.bsky.social · 05/10/2025

#5debutalbums8084 My first thoughts down below⬇️ There’s a load already posted that I need to add to my shortlist, but I still reckon most of my top 5 will be from these 9 albums:
