Today Burlington VT marks the bittersweet end of an era: the best breakfast sandwich I’ve ever had, chicken fried scrambled egg on a hommde bun with zucchini pickles & cabbage, and Bonuts, biscuits in the shape of a donut & glazed with a delightful variety of flavors. Thanks @thecafehot.bsky.social!
The number 8, chicken fried. A big piece of chicken fried scrambled egg that looks just like a huge chicken tender rests on a homemade brioche-like bun covered in black sesame seeds. Beneath the egg is a zucchini pickle slice and cabbage, all covered in an light orange aioliA “GBC” some kind of mutant brownie light brown in color, the texture of mochi and covered in powdered sugarA container of Bonuts, a thick biscuit cut in the shape of a donut and deep fried, then covered in a sugary coating. These are a mix of espresso glaze, the most famous standby, and Krispy Krime, which tastes how you think it would

I had this Eggplant rollatini at Planta in Bethesda this week, it reinforced that eggplant is a top-tier ingredient
Two blistered eggplant slices rolled around a dark green filling that is supposed to simulate ricotta, but had more of a spinach / basil flavor with ricotta-like texture. The rollatinis sit on a thin layer of red tomato sauce, and a thin ring of basil pesto circles the plate. Two cute broccolini pieces are nestled between the rollatinis

More people should follow @mattweathervt.bsky.social, where else are you getting highly accurate Vermont weather AND on point political analysis?!
This will lead to power outages, tree destruction, blocked roads and carbon monoxide deaths from poorly placed or maintained generators are all in play.
The problem is all that ice out there - as in frozen water - and all that ICE out there - the gestapo-like storm troopers terrorizing people in places like Minnesota and Maine - are ripe for social media ridicule if you put them all together.

The guy from Vermont works as a crisis interventionist! (For now)
A Reddit post

Please consider emailing Lamoille County
Mental Health Services to request immediate termination of Samuel Douglass from his position as crisis interventionist In case you haven't heard, Vermont State Senator Sam Douglass has been implicated in a young republicans group chat ripe with racist remarks that has been leaked. If you read Sam's bio on the state website, you will also see that he is a crisis interventionist for Lamoille County Mental Health Services.
These comments undermine the trust and respect that should be paramount for a crisis interventionist. The comments also indicate a certain level of mental illness on their own, and as such a mentally unwell person should not be in a position of impact for people in crisis.
In my opinion, this news should be cause for immediate termination of Sam from this position.
If you agree, please email info@lamoille.org and share your feelings, or call 802-888-5026

A meme with the “guess I’ll die” shrugging man on a black background, with stylized fireworks above him.

The curly text above his head says “what day is it?” In red white and blue

Around his head in meme style block print it says “can’t tell!” “Could be anything” and “nobody knows!”

Below that it says

“Come celebrate the fourth of July with us!
- the formation of the Crab Nebula (1054)
- Calvin Coolidges birthday (1872)
- the opening of the Tuskeegee institute (1881)
- Nothing else notable that we know of”

Dear neighbors,
Tonight on a walk with my partner and our
dog, I witnessed a tragedy made inevitable by public policy. As we approached the intersection of Rivers Edge Drive and Plattsburg Ave we noticed a number of parked vehicles and a crowd of people centered around something laying in the road. As we took a few steps closer, I realized that the something was really someone - a man in boots, work jeans, and jacket lying face down in the road. I asked my partner to take our dog and find a different route home and rushed to see what I could do to help.
Here is where we can take some pride in
being Vermonters, in being Burlingtonians. This accident must have happened no more than five minutes before we arrived, but already surrounding the semi-conscious man were a half dozen neighbors and drivers, including a healthcare worker on their way home from work, stethoscope still around his neck as he reassured the heavily bleeding man, imploring him not to move. Someone was calmly directing traffic, another was on the phone with 911. We waited there with him until EMTs arrived minutes later. So take pride in this:
Vermonters rise to the moment. We care for our neighbors, whether we know their name or not. We offer all we can in one another's moments of need, regardless of what little we might have to offer.Dear neighbors,

Vermonters rise to the moment. We care for our neighbors, whether we know their name or not. We offer all we can in one another's moments of need, regardless of what little we might have to offer.I don't know the cause of tonight's accident,
but anyone who lives near the Beltline knows that you can hear speeding cars and motorcycles at all hours of the day and night. Our city councilor has even asked us to please report those loud noises directly to him. What I do know is that policy choices have led us here, and they can lead us to a safer future if we demand it. In 2022, the United States had an astronomical traffic-related death rate of 12.84 per 100,000 residents. Canada had just five deaths per 100k that same year.
To make our streets safer, we must embrace
common sense improvements that many other developed countries have made. We must stop valuing high speed and low congestion above the lives of our neighbors. We must be willing to entertain and embrace changes to the way we've experienced our streets until now - because it is clear that the world we've built for ourselves isn't working out the way we wanted it to.It is time for our city councillor,
to move on from his ad-hoc data collection phase and demand that our city council and department of public works engage with the residents of the New North End NOW to make our streets safe for all kinds of travelers. It is time for Evan to drop his knee-jerk opposition to low risk, high reward programs like the temporary closure of the North Ave right turn lane onto Plattsburg Ave, which faced so much opposition from him and other residents that the program appeared to end early.
I don't know what will happen to the man I
saw lying in the road today. I gave the healthcare worker my jacket to place under his head - he was bleeding so profusely it was hard to tell just how severe his injuries were. But I know that he will not be the last, as long as our neighbors are willing to sacrifice a few of us each year to keep their streets just the way they are today, this will happen again, and again, and again.

Does the professor… not understand where the LLM got this information? It creates no new knowledge, only regurgitates it in half truths. This professor has AI brain rot just like half the rest of the country. There are useful applications for AI, yet we insist on using it to replace our humanity
of my inquiry. And the astonishing part is this: the making of books such as those on my shelves, each the labor of years or decades, is quickly becoming a matter of well-designed prompts. The question is no longer whether we can write such books; they can be written endlessly, for us. The question is, do we want to read them?
