Just been drenched waiting at a Bus Stop (file pic) as motorist set up wave of water from poorly drained road. Thought that was illegal in NSW but turns out only illegal if mud gets sprayed, water is okay. Some Australian State Road Rules are funny!

50 minutes later and play has commenced under blue skies, but in 2026 they're still scoring by hand! Home side (Randwick-Petersham) 4th Grade off to a good start, 0-12 in first over

Sydney Grade Cricket was supposed to have its first One Day match of the season commencing at 10am. This is the scene at 10am at Petersham. At least the covers are coming off and the rain seems to have stopped. Be a late start but the sun is forecast to come out with temps reaching 30°C

But is Apple's new age verification system safe? It still requires the uploading of govt ID (or credit card but not debit card) I believe - who is holding that, where, and for how long?

Funny, this EatClub promotion in Newcastle doesn't seem to be working too well - there were no venues offering deals when I was there on Monday, and similarly today (Wednesday). Maybe too many people have discovered that the promised sign up credits never seem to eventuate?

That's a footpath you say, for pedestrians including guardians pushing prams, the incapacitated in wheelchairs or with walking machines, and to think that I thought that it was a Council-supplied unsupervised Lime Bike parking area!
Pic shows a handful of Lime Bikes plonked in the centre of a footpath in Strathfield (NSW) forcing even the able bodied to detour onto the grass

Considering Australian wages on average around 40% over Kiwi, Woolworths must be saving considerably in other ways! #nzpol

Not sure why City of Sydney erect Bus Stop signs if they're also going to let delivery bikes occupy the same space.

I don't think that the duty Lifeguard at Newcastle (NSW) today will be troubled by swimmers! Or surfers for that matter!

Google showed me this pic 2nd. If this is the current queuing at Sydney Passport Office when most people can use Post Offices imagine how crowded the place will get when no PO available! Wonder if the AusPost CEO consulted Min Foreign Affairs regarding his thought bubble?

Typical Australia Post that they put a sticker on a parcel pushing their Lockers, when this one was already addressed to a 24hr Parcel Locker, yet made me queue at the local PO to pick it up during business hours.

Why? When? There's a free shuttle at SYD between domestic and international terminals and it's been operating for quite a few years Sure, knock some of the other exorbitant fees, but ...

Perhaps not the best choice of comparison even tho it's absolutely true in this case. Remember Hillary's story of flying into Bosnia under sniper fire? It turned out to be a "mistake"!

I don't often praise Sydney Trains but putting wet umbrella bag machines at station entrances in winter is great idea (albeit late considering these machines been around for 20-30 yrs) as there's nothing worse than sloshing thru water from umbrellas inside carriages Ping @johngrahamalp.bsky.social

Certain media are describing this as a "world first" and most of the article reads like a PR piece for the airline. Yet just last year (also in August) the RNZAF did the same thing! (I'm not knocking this year's effort, but this is a semi-regular occurrence - brave, skilled but not historic)

Samoa Air got international publicity charging by the combined weight of pax + luggage. Small regional airlines also do it. Ryanair looked at it but decided that it would be an administrative nightmare and as a result delay flights.

And I thought that Sydney was bad with only 17 for 5 million people. None in Shire or Nth Beaches. Bondi Junction to cover CBD and E suburbs (and only open til 6pm). A couple out west only open for an hour at a time! ABS seems determined to have as few #census2026 forms to process as possible!

Trust Sydney Trains! They've just had trackwork taking out all Inner West trains over the weekend, now they've discovered that "urgent trackwork" is necessary on that line! Did they stuff up over the weekend @johngrahamalp.bsky.social ?

@johngrahamalp.bsky.social How can Sydney Trains announce the cancellation of a train at the exact moment that it is due? This is six stops after Central! Your idiot department must have known a lot earlier that the train would not be coming so why couldn't passengers be told or don't we count?

Vodafone Australia seems to have fixed their latest problem, but I'm wondering why they bothered to apologise this time when they seem to have data outages regularly? Was it because this time voice calls and texts were also supposedly effected?

Westfield Australia have combined with television channel SBS to offer “Live World Cup Sites” in their shopping centres. They presumably don't expect a large uptake as only seating for 6 adults!

Hope they're better managed than in Sydney Australia. Lime lets users park the bikes across the footpath so as to impede pedestrians especially the elderly and people with prams. If they valued social behavior they'd ban such users for life!

It's not just because of surveillance and privacy reasons that companies should ditch Cloudfare in my opinion, but tge fact that they have frequent outages, and even when it's working it can take seemingly forever to get past their "security service" reach the actual webpage that you want

Thiel tried NZ back in 2011, gaining citizenship after just 12 days residence on the back of many investment promises. These days his Kiwi companies are shuttered, his refuge near Queenstown couldn't get Council approval, and his legacy is "mixed". Wonder what the Argentines are hoping for?

Woolworths Australia said they'd consider feedback after installing dangerous security gates at the entrances to some supermarkets the other month. As usual, Woolies doesn't consider their customers and is expanding the installation of these gates. Pity your kids, and your knees!

I'd ask why the US needs the UK to help with minesweeping in the Middle East, but then I read the other month that the US pulled its minesweepers out of the area just before the "war"!! (Great forward planning!)

Even more interesting is that Australia is not even in the top eight according to this index of democracies from 2024 (taken from a source link in above article which needs to be read in full)

I see that Waldorf Astoria have their sign up for their first hotel in Sydney, Australia. A bit premature I would have thought as that building must be a year away from opening. Some rooms will have lovely views from Circular Quay when it's finished.
