Does this come as a surprise to anyone. The thing about the Cold War coming to an end is that only one side stopped fighting it. The other just became more subtle.

Maybe the software developers are unemployed because AI has taken their jobs?

That really shows of the beauty of the Lakes! How long was the capture, and was it manual turning?

Just scrolled back through your recent posts. I can see you are worried about a wedding coming up AND have struggled to have "me" time due to illness. Don't let these things spiral into anything more. You are way more awesome than you realise!

Taught by who? Previous colonists who had magically figured it out because simply being in America made them smarter? Or the native Americans?

How dare they not buy American! Maybe thats why the orange clown thinks they have low IQ. Also why do pants in Somalia cost more than a BMW in Minisota? Moving to Minisota seems like a pretty high IQ move under those conditions.

Do you think they read 1984... probably not, it has a lot of words and complex ideas...
April 4th, 1984. Last night to the flicks. All war films. One very good one of a ship full of refugees being bombed somewhere in the Mediterranean. Audience much amused by shots of a great huge fat man trying to swim away with a helicopter after him, first you saw him wallowing along in the water like a porpoise, then you saw him through the helicopters gunsights, then he was full of holes and the sea round him turned pink and he sank as suddenly as though the holes had let in the water, audience shouting with laughter when he sank.

I have promised myself that if I ever rebuild my home PC, i'll switch. I'll never install Windows again. (Unless the roll back to Win7)

John Rayson @john-rayson.bsky.social · 12/10/2026
I think it's actually due to Win11 being shite. Things that worked flawlessly for decades have been "redesigned" and now literally don't work. I have used it on 3 different machines with different hardware - it's been unstable on all 3.
010
John Rayson @john-rayson.bsky.social · 12/10/2026
I keep thinking I really should switch to Linux... especially as Win11 is essentially broken. But just don't have the time now that I use my PC as a tool rather than a fun thing to play with.

Sunday was a good morning for a walk. We explored some new paths. Phone was obviously struggling with the contrast and bright sky. Toddler, dog, & dad had a very nice walk. (Lost Superman and had to go back later to find him) #photography #phonephotography #cannockchase #forest

The main question is, why did you make a model of two rabbits sitting by a pool of blood, surrounded by excrement? Its a bit distrubing and makes me think of Watership down.

I generally like the geography / map quizzes, but Im not a fan of that one. Three of the 5 I had never even heard of, and the history of each was pretty inconsequential...

I could find no info on the public cost before privatisation. Network rail (public body) spent 11.1 B in 24/25. 7.6B of that was gov funding, the rest from rail operators. Total gov subsidy to the railways was 11.9B - so only 800M more than the cost railtrack.

That is a problem, but the same people are the ones who are running it as a public concern. So corruption is an issue regardless of public vs private.

Playing devils advocate. 1) Selling something you own, is not theft. 2) The product normally stays the same 3) The price more closely reflects the cost, rather than being subsidised.

Granted, the UK should join as a new member, with whatever caveats they want to apply. But the EU was weakened by the UK leaving (not as much as the UK was), the UK rejoining would make Europe stronger, its in everyones interest

Granted for absolute numbers, but % that make more sense when easy compared to 100 should really have 0 to 100 as the scale. Not doing that is essentially the reverse of what the DM did where the scsle appears to be 0 to 150.

Even wikipedia have banned it as a source... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikiped...
In the 2017 RfC, the Daily Mail was the first source to be deprecated on Wikipedia, and the decision was challenged and reaffirmed in the 2019 RfC. There is consensus that the Daily Mail (including its online version, MailOnline) is generally unreliable, and its use as a reference is generally prohibited, especially when other sources exist that are more reliable. As a result, the Daily Mail should not be used for determining notability, nor should it be used as a source in articles. The Daily Mail has a "reputation for poor fact checking, sensationalism, and flat-out fabrication". The Daily Mail may be used in rare cases in an about-self fashion. Some editors regard the Daily Mail as reliable historically, so old articles may be used in a historical context.

To be fair, we can give a huge (still but falling rapidly) chunk of money and financial weight. The UK has the sixth largest economy in the world and would be 2nd in the EU.

I made a field / animal pen. Fencing was based on the scenery instructions in the back of the Pillage rule book. Learnt a LOT, but overall, I'm pretty happy with it. Might add turfs of veg, but might do that as the next project. #pillage #scenery #modelling #miniature #nerdlings

The current issure if warpingvdue to glue drying was fixed by: covering the underside in PVA and then sticking it to packing paper with a heavy marble placemat on top. I think the glue warped it the other way and corrected it

Twice now, I have had my scenery warped by PVA glue (watered down in both cases). Once on cardboard, and once with MDF. Question: What glue do people use to avoid this? #nerdlings #modelling #pillage #crafting #crafts #glues #question

I get that recording / photographing people in public is legal (no expectation of privacy), but maybe its time to make the law explicit - it has to be obvious you are doing it. Just like CCTV... so there is a precedent.

It's weird that over on America, this isn't the norm. Also, self checkouts do reduce the price, but not to the extent that other inflationary pressures rise them.

There are internet archives that keep copies of pages. Most news services let them copy their pages. You can normally read paywalled articles by going to the archive and entering the url of the original article.

I made a hill! I almost threw it away at least twice because it was looking very bad. But glad I persisted, quite happy with the result. I used the "hard shell" technique, plastic pots covered in bandage and plaster. With plaster rocks added. Learnt a lot along the way. #nerdlings #scenery

I think the existence (and ease of access) of the archive versions is in itself a problem. If there was a minimum of say 7 days before the archive could be accessed AND pay-per article (or 10), then people might pay.
