I think the influence of the front page is still powerful. People who don’t watch or read news still scan front pages in supermarkets and suchlike. Web traffic is driven mostly by direct links, not people choosing to browse the website. Arguably it’s the disinterested who need to know the most

Statistically they probably didn’t vote Labour. They are more likely to have voted Labour than a single other party, which is slightly different.

I find a wider vocabulary allows me to express myself more accurately. But I’m not sure either is the point - a broad vocabulary allows me to better understand things, particularly when it comes to academic writing where specificity and accuracy are key.

Is it going to be another Farage where he needs to lose about 6 in a row before he becomes a MP? Polanski is in a reasonably good position right now, all the platform of a party leader, none of the accountability of a MP. I feel like it would be silly to stand anywhere less than a sure thing

I’m all for replacing Stamp Duty and modernising property taxes, but I don’t see a world where these costs aren’t simply passed onto tenants or where those with property already aren’t going to hoover up more as a result. Easy to make bold statements, harder to stop people being taken advantage of.

Outgoing PM jumpscare. As a city builder aficionado and a casual urban planning nerd, one of the things not mentioned in the video is “compulsory purchase”, which in most cases relevant to the videogame would require an application to the Secretary of State

People like simple solutions to complex problems, which is why Farage appeals. However, if you’re looking to actually improve the country, it’s going to take more work than that: taxpolicy.org.uk/2025/07/22/u...

I’m curious if there’s a genuine belief that the far-right agitators would be left wing if they simply gave it a chance? It works logically if you squint at their general approval of the NHS and ignore the whole “racially motivated hatred” thing…

I don’t think the average American is afraid of a “shooting war with France”. The question should be “How many American soldiers losing limbs and lives to frostbite are you willing to see for a battle over an arctic island you can’t possibly hold because you can’t win in an arctic environment?”

There’s no silver (or black) bullet for this franchise. Swapping out pieces won’t turn it around - long term strategy and stability are needed. Getting rid of Carroll achieves nothing

So much English identity revolves around “not being London” that all political rhetoric leans heavily on an imaginary version of the capital that doesn’t actually exist. Appealing to regional ignorance and the school of “everyone knows…” is the political narrative of choice these days.

I think that some of the independent councillors who left the Labour Party (or were kicked out) over Gaza will join YP, but it remains to be seen if they’re organised enough to compete with established parties.

I think that Camden/Hackney/Islington/Southwark are particularly susceptible. Tower Hamlets is already chaotic but I can’t see Labour gaining there. In these areas campaigning is already fierce and has been since summer

Joe Verlander @joeverlander.bsky.social · 18/11/2025
I think there’s a good risk of that. Or strong Labour councils will shift to no-overall-control. It’ll depend on ward boundaries/social housing concentration/local attitudes towards the council etc.

Is the insinuation that London will turn far-right, due to the government pursuing far-right policies? I feel like a conclusion is being drawn over some coincidences. I have no doubt that Labour are due a drubbing in May, but that is probably as true today as it was last week
