SCREENWRITER AXIOMS FOR GENERALS This isn't a pitch it's a first date. Just connect. Have an agenda. Research them, ask Qs re their projects. Don't pitch ten ideas. Tease two to gauge interest. You're thinking "what can this person do for me." Remember, they are thinking the exact same thing!

TIP ON PITCH DECKS - FOR FILMS Lead with visuals. Big images that fill the frame (slide). Use very few words. If you don’t have a visual for an aspect or element, find one or make one. The deck should leave an impression in the mind’s eye, as if it’s the trailer. #filmmaking

As writer-director I’m (all too) often working on pitch decks— but I’d suggest all screenwriters (directors or not) dabble in pitch decks early on when breaking or revising an idea— because the format forces you to distill it all down to the pure, core essentials. #filmmaking #screenwriting
