That Darn Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

Joe Guglielmelli @joegug.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

RIP💔 Never believed she was 30 when Waterfront opened; always thought she must be 18 or 19. A perfect Hitchcock blonde so sexy in that red dress she wore during the Chicago sequence in NxNW So lovely as Echo in All Fall Down, a movie I fell in love with when I was a kid & saw it on the 4:30 movie.

The disgusting irrelevant blonde who was fired for demonstrating her racism is attention seeking again. BTW That sounds like Trump's excuse for why he didn't sexually assault E. Jean Caroll which a jury didn't buy. Even her venom isn't original.

I've always wondered whether that was Diane's or Brooks' idea. But I have always got a charge out that inside joke

I am finally going to see a 70mm print in a theater on Friday. So excited

Never knew this existed. I read the book which is a series of short stories but never seen the play. I'll look for this.

It was a popcorn bowl with the TCM logo and symbols of various movies such as the scooter in Roman Holiday, a coffee cup, and some notepads

You can't help but love Buzz in The Blue Dahlia. Besides I won a gift basket from TCM for knowing who the character was

As bleak a noir as you'll find in either classic or modern era

Joe Guglielmelli @joegug.bsky.social · 17/09/2026

The Dark Corner is where Lucy plays the Gal Friday to private eye Mark Stevens. Clifton Webb & William Bendiz are up to no good. As to be expected she is very good in it. Henry Hathaway directed who was Fox's noir director.

✋ Not local or national news; not entertainment programing, not sports, not even the TONYs. Boycott since Colbert went off the air

@noirfoundation.bsky.social Will Elizabeth Bougerol be performing on the opening night of Noir City? If not Elizabeth, will there be music on opening night?

Add in Ida Lupino and a deranged cameo by John Randolph, you can't go wrong with Columbo

Joe Guglielmelli @joegug.bsky.social · 04/08/2026

@eddiemuller.bsky.social Saw Elizabeth Bougerol's Tony Bennett show last night. She was terrific & the show was a blast. I sat a table of five people. Four of the five were there because they had seen Elizabeth at Noir City NY on opening night. Once again enriching the cultural life of folks

My late partner and I used to joke that we were going to star in a remake because she was deaf in her right ear & I was lind in my left eye. When we were walking together, we were doomed unless something came right at us

Not a surprise to find Elwood working for HHS

An aspect of the movie that isn't discussed is Juliet Prowse's violent aversion to being touched. Like Mineo & Murray, some event in her past has damaged her so she does not react normally. It is Juliet's reaction to Stritch, rather than Stritch's actions, that makes Stritch seem predatory

Peter Bogdanovich had the theory that its origin came from Only Angels Have Wings where Rita Hayworth played Judy, Grant's ex-lover who comes back into his life

#booksky Highly recommend My Name Is Gerry Sass by Tiffany Hassan. A story of a hitman, his daughter & his buddy a Catholic priest is a great Elmore Leonard-esque crime novel. Yet it is also a mediation on familial love, self-discovery & redemption. Sawed-off shotguns & Ginsberg poetry can co-exist

I maintain that if Scalia were alive, the crap from Alito & Thomas wouldn't see the light of day. Yes, he was conservative but he was intellectually honest. He wouldn't sign onto their stupidity

Kill List directed by Ben Wheatley. Folk horror off the charts. Hitmen on one last jobs

Brilliant film. Even knowing the ending, I have watched it several times. A big thank you to @eddiemuller.bsky.social who recommended it.

I've rewatched it several time recently. I come for Gloria Grahame but Mary Beth deserves another watch

I am definitely watching the film after reading your article. I was struck by “This is the age of the nonentity. . . The glorification of nobody as long as they’re victims.” Prophetic except he missed how the non-entities would turn themselves into victims. Riley Gaines is a perfect example

Beany & Cecil.Loved them. Bob Clampett of Bugs Bunny fame was their creator.

I used to go to the movies regularly. But work, life, caregiving, make it more of an event than routine. This year I saw Sinners, One Battle After Another, The Secret Agent, No Other Choice & Superman (as well as theater shows films for the movies). They are a start to my moviegoing.

Edward Brophy is one of my favorite character actors. While he usually makes you laugh in movies like Larceny Inc. & The Falcon series, he breaks your heart in Ford's The Last Hurrah

Guess whose poll numbers in that governor's race must suck. Or else she was so concerned about the facility like her dear friend Susan Collins whose poll numbers also suck even after she got ICE out of Maine

I refer you to the response of the great John Turturro to Willem Dafoe when he tells him that he won't have to do his entire stretch in prison in To Lie & Die in L.A. I'd repeat it here but it might offend the sensitive but it begins "And the check is in the mail . . . ."
