Beyond expectations. Dude wanted to make the Opening Day roster so badly, he made it happen. I got to see him a couple weeks ago in Toronto, so I can wear the “I saw the future AL Rookie of the Year” feather in my Tigers cap. A mighty high bar for year 2, and I think he can do it!

That was the start to my down south week. After catching a few hours of sleep at my brothers, I was lucky enough to be invited along with my pal John to watch the Banjo Bowl in the Calm Air box. Very gracious hosts, and always nice to see Winnipeg beat Saskatchewan. My first Banjo Bowl, too!

🧵 Every September since I’ve worked in tourism, I manage to take a little time out of Churchill in between beluga season and bear season. This year, the plan was to take the train to Thompson where my car was waiting at the train station, hop in and drive to Winnipeg.

It was extremely cold, windy, and very wet on the Churchill River last week, but seeing these guys made, you forget all of that. The river is the seasonal home have about 3000 beluga whales who come there to feed, moult, and calve. 🐋🌿

I’m still processing this 2 days later. I was sitting in a kayak when this baby beluga decided to play with me. Other whales joined in and you can see what happened next. What isn’t on camera is that one then started pushing me around the river for five-ish minutes. It was an unforgettable moment.

I have been a @pressreader.bsky.social subscriber for almost 15 years. Newspapers are still my favourite medium for news consumption, and their subscription allows me to read pretty much any pdf version of major newspaper I want. 2nd best thing other than holding a physical paper in my hand.
