And 💯 back at ‘ya. I just did an interview with a reporter from @notus.com where I also made exactly this point. The NAS is easy to bully because it has few fans who really rely on it. And messing with it now riles up the scientific community, which plays into the administrations hands.

Sadly seeing more and more of this across the academy. Drexel’s Academy of Natural Sciences is closing its museum after nearly two centuries. Jobs lost. Momentum stopped. Leadership foregone. And it’s not just labs and museums; entire academic programs are increasingly on the chopping block.

The closure does not affect the rest of the institution, which builds and maintains the collections and conducts research through departments such as the Patrick Center for Environmental Research.

There are cities named #Ontario in California, Oregon, Wisconsin, and Ohio. There is also the town of Ontario in Ontario County, NY. And then there’s Ontario Township in Illinois. And let’s not forget the unincorporated communities of Ontario in Indiana and Iowa. Just sayin’.

👍 Like I wrote, we all have a part to play. But the change I'm talking about, and that we need is systemic. It goes way beyond store managers and social media, and deep into c-suites, investment houses, and government offices.

I get it: We all have a role to play in keeping the planet healthy and livable. But it irks me when the climate narrative focuses on consumer action. Consumers can only choose from the options they're given. Want climate-friendly choices? Businesses must provide more climate-friendly options.

…And no serious climate or fire scientist is attributing wildland fires to climate change alone. And no one is saying decarbonization will stop them in their tracks. As usual, Lomborg accuses researchers and the press of cherrypicking data while he himself is the master cherrypicker…

I was unlucky to have spent time with him when I was at the U of Calgary so I can say with some confidence that Bjorn Lomborg is little more than an attention-seeking hack. First hectares burned ≠ intensity. Today’s fires are uniquely devastating because they burn hotter and faster…
