One neighbour complaint leads to the council enforcing a rule with no flexibility and a small live music culture - i've been there & it's a minor gem we need in Sydney - is set to wither. Plus c'est change ... www.smh.com.au/culture/musi...

‘In Sydney this is a rarity’: The hidden music haven caught in a bitter council spat
For almost two years, Nick Shimmin and Matthew McGuigan were hosting free, invitation-only gigs in an old former church. Then the local council stepped in.

I am involved in music in many ways and have been all my life but am always hearing of artists doing shows AFTER they have happened. How is that? Where is this god like algorhythm at work? For Sydney music people, please look at this page sydneymusic.net?

Maybe I’m mistaken but aren’t charts a secondary output of the process of tabulating radio & streaming numbers for the sake of distributing pooled resources to human performers (like ASCAP)? If so then it makes sense not to do that if the AI-generated song was never performed

I feel like "100% AI-free" is setting me up for some dunking or as least some scroll-by eyerolls. So... Our AI rationale is: the madness that surrounds AI adoption right now is just as likely to result in wasted time or a severe liability as it is a huge breakthrough. As such, we're happy to wait.

Small space live music venues in Sydney are dying at an alarming rate. This year so far we have lost (or are about to lose): • Annandale Creative Arts Centre in Annandale • Monster Mouse in Marrickville • Mary's Underground in Circular Quay • The Red House (People's Republic) in Earlwood (1/3)

Are government grants enough to save Sydney's live music scene?
The recently announced closure of a high-profile music venue has the state opposition asking if grant money could have been better spent.
