Driving in DFW is a futile exercise in finding the safest spot among a parade of primally activated suicidal Texans in the family's non-passenger-utility-vehicle in a mindless effort to prove the safe following distance is a myth invented by the left.

Thank you! WCAG contrast standards should be the bare minimum, but it feels like people can't even be asked to consider accessibility. That or they just miss important details like this. For me, it's up there with sites that don't have a high contrast or at least dark mode compatibility.

There's been a recent surge of attempts by religious interests to conjure a religious revival among gen Z, likely in an attempt to control a growing disillusionment with the current regime. It's just more of the same moral entrepreneurship that got us here in the first place.

A online poll with a non-probabilistic sample ground, likely heavily self-selected. It is in direct contrast in result to every large sample size probabilistic survey in the last half decade. This is little better than the reporting misrepresenting Barna, where the sample was entirely churchgoers.

Started by trialing for a bit on my m1 pro asahi notebook. I'm still ankle deep, but enjoy the combination of niri's intuitive and creative modality and noctalia's aesthetic. I didn't realize how much I missed having a proper greeter, as well. :)

People can say all they want. What do you do when someone claims to be a humanist but won't condemn genocide, regardless of circumstance? People have no shame, and we've no contemporary means of recourse.

@tinygo.org I'm putting together a badge project and was considering a full-color e-paper screen, but I noticed the driver support only exists for up to 3 and 4 color e-ink displays. Is anyone currently working on driver support for any full-color e-ink displays?

I've been meaning to get off of this toxic software ecosystem for a hot minute, but keep trialing window managers without deciding where I want to go. I just want Wayland i3, but sway just was not doing it for me out of the box a few years ago. Any suggestions?

And by crashing out, I mean I spun up a personal gitlab, which I later euthanized. Considering spinning one back up these days though with github's atrocious uptime stats.

Have you tried herdr? Interested in your thoughts on herdr vs. tmux. I've been trialing this last couple of weeks and it took very little at achieve 1:1 parity with my existing tmux setup. I appreciate the extra work to integrate agent/sub-agents out of the box.

Recently gotten into the habit of watching the copilot support chat for our org, and tagging profiles of the devs/architects who complain about running out of tokens because, "I'm out of tokens but I just ran an HTTP refactor through fable in agent mode."

lmao In our case the only distinction between the two is pay band. ~80% of engineers with either title: 1. send story text to most expensive agent model 2. send output to actual SME 3. feed SME response back to agent 4. submit PR 5. accept copilot review changes blindly 6. merge 7. pray

I never said "the problem is data centers", I said the problem is that people don't understand datacenters. The messaging for datacenters weak, and the reporting against is misleading.
000
Nathan Jodoin @jodoin.io · 19/08/2026
most people aren't thinking about how their usage of all this interconnected technology drives the need for those data centers in the first place. Commercial wouldn't be growing if there wasn't residential demand for commercial products.

Nathan Jodoin @jodoin.io · 19/08/2026
I distinctly remember a time when we weren't talking about this and we were focused on just trying to solve energy demand. However growing negative sentiment toward AI makes datacenters an easy target to hyper fixate on, particularly when the numbers directly support the case. Unfortunately...
100
Nathan Jodoin @jodoin.io · 19/08/2026
I did. I acknowledge increased electrification is the source of the strain problem, but the recent changes in distribution of that demand growth have shifted public concern from, "we're using too much power" to "corporations are using too much power", which diverts energy from solving the problem.
100
Nathan Jodoin @jodoin.io · 19/08/2026
Which brings us back to the reason why people are mad about data centers. Their energy bill increases, they consume shallow reporting and aren't well educated enough on the issues to understand the problem or how to alleviate either at a personal and infrastructural level.
100
Nathan Jodoin @jodoin.io · 19/08/2026
Do we need the data centers, sure, but it explains why people are so upset. Yes, we neglected necessary energy infra, and we're not doing enough to reinvest, yet. A few corporations are investing to generate power to offset their demand, but unfortunately that doesn't solve the problem today.
100
Nathan Jodoin @jodoin.io · 19/08/2026
Demand by sector better captures the power problem. Datacenter growth is specifically cited in the eia 2025 and 2026 reports as a primary driver for commercial electricity demand growth, and as of 2026 the eia reported that for the first time in history commercial eclipsed residential growth.
100
Nathan Jodoin @jodoin.io · 19/08/2026
The eia forecasts energy demand growth in the commercial sector to be over 5x that of residential into 2026 and 2027. Yes, we saw residential show a massive increased residential demand in and post-covid for a number of reasons, but commercial has recently outpaced residential.
100
Nathan Jodoin @jodoin.io · 19/08/2026
fairly certain it is, but I'm open to being educated if the energy problem has changed in any significant way since last year
100
Nathan Jodoin @jodoin.io · 19/08/2026
I actually want more datacenters, even in my own backyard if that's the correct place for it. I do stand by my belief that if messaging was better about data centers fewer people would care. I also believe that if you're not staying in the loop in your local politics you have no room to complain.

*don't know or care to acknowledge
100
Nathan Jodoin @jodoin.io · 19/08/2026
But the problem is 100% that people don't know that datacenters have other uses. They're hyper focused on the impact from AI and they are completely ignoring the fact that they do need data centers.
100
Nathan Jodoin @jodoin.io · 19/08/2026
The rate of electricity use alone has massively skyrocketed as the result of growth to specifically support AI. Prior, growth was typically offset by increases in efficiency, but this is no longer true. Water less so, agricultural use is a significant factor there, yes, but there are still upticks.

quietly and/or improperly zoning industrial/commercial infrastructure and cutting deals on utilities that stress local utility infra, raising cost of living and sometimes lowering quality of life. The lack of communication and understanding with the general population causes understandable friction.
000
Nathan Jodoin @jodoin.io · 19/08/2026
For individual communities, it's never as simple as "datacenter good" or "datacenter bad". Most people don't know what a datacenter is being used for, if it's going to degrade quality of life or raise cost of living, or even when they're being planned. There have been too many cases of cities

Some companies might have the ability to pass the buck to their consumers, but at least then the cost is placed with the demand driver and not the unfortunate casualties of less than scrupulous zoning deals.
020
Nathan Jodoin @jodoin.io · 17/08/2026
And honestly if the companies causing most of this friction were forced to bear more of the utility cost increase and actually give a shit about the quality of life of existing residents around the data centers, people would probably care a lot less.

Although non gen-ai internet and tech infrastructure is also mostly privately owned, at least with that infra, if they pass the increased costs to the municipality they set up in, ~everyone is a customer so they can justify it. Can't say everyone benefits from crypto or AI data centers the same way.
120
Nathan Jodoin @jodoin.io · 17/08/2026
with gen-ai. Most people lack that domain knowledge. People don't want to pay more for private data centers that generally don't benefit them. They prefer those data centers inherit their own power and water costs, but we saw what happened with big oil in Corpus Christi.
220
Nathan Jodoin @jodoin.io · 17/08/2026
I think there's a problem in messaging. Energy, and water use for the Internet and relative tech growth had progressed at a fairly predictable and slower rate until gen-ai started requiring substantially more resources to train and operate, so I can appreciate the conflation of data center with

This is definitely a side of the problem the people in the field do not think about unless prompted, and even then will debate against. "You're probably just using it incorrectly"
