The Last Contract of Isako by Fonda Lee (audiobook) One of the best things I’ve read this year. Cyberpunky sci-fi with superb pacing, deep characters and great plot twists. I loved Green Bone Saga and thought this was just as good, possibly better in terms of how the world building is executed.

iPhone camera has massively exaggerated it obviously and brightened up the whole shot. It’s just barely visible with the naked eye.

Aurora borealis? At this time of year? At this time of day? Above the roof of *my* house in Edinburgh? Can you see it? Well… I suppose so.

It’s been A WEEK. I was ill Sunday to Tuesday and my stomach is still feeling off so don’t trust myself to have a beer yet but wow, do I need one.

Maybe we could confine cars to motorways, trunk roads, and vast car parks on the outskirts of towns & cities, and then just let everyone in the city get on with it?

Said chippy does incredible, freshly made chunky onion rings while the AI image is scabby looking tiny frozen things from a bag. I need to take a photo and compare next time I order from them!

It’s bizarre. My local chippy and Chinese takeaways both use AI generated images on Just Eat and their actual food looks SO MUCH BETTER than the shitty images

Apart from ease of access for newcomers, basically yes. As long as you like crunchy combat.

It did take me a while to get into the first one! I think I dropped it first time round and came back and finished it when the Ultimate Edition came out

I don’t really know what to make of Control: Resonant. It’s gorgeous to look at, the melee combat is pretty fun and it’s got that dose of Remedy weirdness. But the world and the enemy design just isn’t doing a lot for me. Hope it picks up later.

For a long time it was the first album I put on any new piece of music kit as a sound test. It still sounds absolutely amazing.

I can’t get my head around how this could have happened given how busy that junction used to be when I lived up that way, before it was turned into a quiet route. Must have involved some absolutely braindead driving.

"Influencers" really will receive a box of swag and IMMEDIATELY turn around and sell it for massive profit. Sometimes they even brag about it. It's the games press who are corrupt tho, remember

I was OBSESSED with Ten as a teenager. Recommend looking for some of the live versions of Black from their 2000 tour, they really put the song on another level.

I don’t use my gaming PC that much. Couple of times a week. But every time I do all the bloody superfluous apps that PC component companies insist you install demand to be updated. Motherboard. Keyboard. Mouse. Headset. Nevermind Windows updates and new graphics card drivers. It’s infuriating.

My #9games. Pretty basic. Ask me again tomorrow and it’ll probably be different. Almost chose Resi 7 instead of Resi 4.

I completely agree with this. Rebirth has a similar problem due to open word bloat rather than the linear padding you got in Remake. I’m not sure I can stomach the idea of dealing with more of it in the final game.

I don’t think rugby (or any sports fans) should be banned from drinking at games. But there are people who overdo it and affect other’s enjoyment (and possibly safety) so I’d like to see this considered and addressed if drinking is permitted at football matches again.

I used to sit near a bloke at Murrayfield who would be half cut by kick off and then get through 2-3 drinks per half. As well as him getting progressively more obnoxious as the booze hit, the constant having to move while he went back and forth to the bar / toilets was very annoying

Today just before midday, this one-eyed fox jumped up on top of our garden shed and hung out there for about 15 minutes. Not exactly a common occurrence in broad daylight in Edinburgh!

Sea of Tranquility by Emily St John Mandel Enjoyable time-travel fiction heavily influenced by the author’s pandemic experience. It took a while for the threads of the story to come together and the ending was a bit predictable but I really enjoyed the prose and found the book hard to put down.

My first game of Andromeda’s Edge last night. I’m a sucker for big space games so naturally I really enjoyed this. It reminded me quite a bit of Dune: Imperium mechanically and scratches quite a different itch to my favourite space 4X, Eclipse. Looking forward to playing it again! #boardgames

I’m suddenly low key obsessed with the idea of finding the Sony mini hi-fi system I bought in 1998 or 1999 (and which died in 2005 or 2006) and buying it. Possibly repairing a broken unit if needs be.

Going to start a thread of books I’ve read recently. First up, Slow Gods by Claire North. I found this utterly engrossing. Very thought-provoking with an exploration of neurodivergence, gender, culture, facism and more in the wrapper of a story of civilisations trying to survive a supernova event.
