How many of these people are there? I swear this guy has died at least a dozen times already.

This is very sad news for the entire Furneaux Islands community. Aunty Patsy was a wonderful writer, a sharer of culture and a generous supporter of research into Palawa and Pakana stories. She brought everyone into the conversation. www.abc.net.au/news/2026-09...

Big props to the Guardian for using 'inhabited' rather than the usual 'infested.' It's the humans that will be the infestation.

How would the bit about Doubting Thomas have gone in current times? You're gonna have to do better than bloodied hands, pal. I don't believe that anybody is anybody anymore.

Just wrapped up our local writers, festival here in Port Fairy and I’m full up with ideas and admiration for the smart, kind people involved. Two observations: 1. Writers’ festivals work. They’re not just fluff - they’re good for you. 2. Sure it’s dire out there, but decent people abound.

At moments like these he so resembles Kim Beazley: apparently born and raised Labor, the kindly avuncular persona, and an absolute willingness to sell out the vulnerable to appease the hard right.

Sometimes the news throws up incredible juxtapositions. One Nation's vicious nonsense about gay people, right next to Dolly Parton's message of love and empathy. We're always within reach of the light, always falling on our arses.

We’re the lucky country because somehow everything went our way despite our apathy. Pfft - usually works out, so why wouldntya? We’re about to test this approach in the scariest way possible - by writing a blank cheque to the AI creeps.

When you see the story about how the world now has its first trillionaire, and when you see the story about how laboratories in Congo have run out of supplies to test for Ebola, it is important to understand that in many ways these are the same story.

Peter Garrett leading the AUKUS inquiry is going to end in tears. He’s already loudly pointing out the obvious fallacies before he’s even started. No federal government is ever going to admit it’s a giant cock-up, which is the only available finding. They’ll go ad hominem, and hard.

If graduate programs at big commercial law firms were truly about mentorship, the Minter Ellison announcement would be redundant. The fact they could replace 25% of their grads with AI is proof they were misusing them as grunt labour in the first place.
