Digital artists, share one of your first artworks vs. now! Lara Croft: Tomb Raider fanart from 2013, just after I got my first Wacom bamboo tablet to draw on Gimp 😆 Newer piece is a fanart of Dorothy from The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton, done in Procreate, 2025

Digital painting of the character Lara Croft, showing her from behind and turning to glare at the viewer, hands ready with a bow and nocked arrow.

Digital painting of a woman standing on a train platform in a large fur coat, appearing to live in a 1940s era. She is standing with arms wrapped around herself and staring directly at the viewer with an expression of exhaustion, fear, sadness, but not unkind. She is holding a train ticket and waiting for a train to arrive.

Quote with some purple art! 💜💜

Digital painting of a young child with dark brown curly hair wearing an Elsa costume. Behind the child is a living room in grayscale with two couches, a toy bunny and a pillow on the floor. In front of the child is the Ahtohallan ice palace from Frozen 2.

Quote with your purple art! 💜💜💜

Digital painting of a black woman with long red locs and a flowing purple gown. Her arms are up with palms facing her chest, where a glowing snakelike belt wraps around her body and is entwined at the front. Behind her is a large red and black snake motif.

Happy national Strawberry Ice Cream Day! 😊 felt like time for a return to Sugar Hair (last one was 2019??) and I got the urge to go a little more detailed. Can you guess which national day is gonna get a Sugar Hair next? 👀

Digital painting of a woman with hair made out of pink strawberry ice cream topped with 2 strawberries, and wearing a dress with a bodice shaped like a waffle cone and skirt reminiscent of whipped cream.

A set of 3 illustrations I was commissioned to create for the special edition of Court of Light and Dark by Heather Grace (live on kickstarter now!)

Digital painting of a woman from behind, peering across a field into a dark forest on a moonlit night. A fire pit sits in the field between her and the forest, still smoking. A man stands in shadow among the trees, wielding a large sword.

A man is battling a demon with gray skin and red eyes, the demon is in a black cloak that appears to be shifting in and out. The man has on a simple off-white shirt, brown pants and black boots. The demon is behind the man, grabbing him by the neck. In surprise, the man has dropped his sword.

A man and woman stand in a cave, lit by torches. It is the aftermath of a battle, so they are blood splattered and wounded, but they are standing in a close embrace, about to kiss.

Show me how you draw / paint horses! I haven't done much horse art in recent years, but they have been one of my favorite subjects basically my entire life (tied for first with big cats and women's faces). Here's a few new and old! I actually bought a $5 horse calendar last month for inspiration..

Acrylic painting portrait of a black horse. It is looking directly at the camera and sunlight is shining brightly on the right side of the horse. A long, wavy mane flows across the horse's neck as though windblown.

A small child is hugging a palomino horse. The horse is wearing a saddle and bridle, they appear to be preparing for a ride down the dirt trail they are standing beside.

Black and white graphite pencil drawing of a horse frolicking through what you might imagine is a field, though there is no background other than strategically placed blocks of dark graphite to contrast with highlights in the horse's body and mane.

Colored pencil drawing of an amber-colored horse wearing a black bridle with gold metal bits and decorations.

Came across this alphabet reading challenge a week and a half ago, and already had only 7 books left, so I did some more intentional reading and finished out the whole alphabet today. 🤩

Final art of 2025? Maybe? Who knows, I did have a lot of fun with this today though!

Digital portrait of a dark skinned black woman with a large black Afro. She is wearing a white sleeveless top. The background is green with a suggestion of foliage.

Love this! These two are tied in the top spot for my favorite this year. Both were inspired by books I loved and I feel really proud of what I accomplished in their expressions.

Digital painting inspired by the character Elang from the book A Forgery of Fate by Elizabeth Lim. A Chinese man sits in an ornate chair, surrounded by books. He's holding an open book in his hands and glancing up, as though he's been interrupted in his reading, but his expression shows interest and amusement. The right half of his face is a blue-grey dragon.

Digital painting inspired by the book The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton. A woman in a large fur coat is standing at a train station, ticket in hand. Her hair is loose in a somewhat 1940s style. She is looking at the viewer not unkindly, but seems a bit wary, or scared, but determined as well.

I’ve been trying to do more book illustration type stuff, and was inspired by A Forgery of Fate by Elizabeth Lim - One of my favorite reads this year!. It’s a retelling of Beauty and the Beast set in a fantasy version of China. Also the main character is an artist, so… 😆😍 #bookillustration

Digital painting of a man sitting in an ornate wooden chair in a home library. Warm light is coming from the top right from a source that is not pictured. The man is holding a book open in his hands and glancing up at the viewer as though interrupted, but he’s not upset about it. One half of his face is a twenty-something Chinese man and the other half is a blue dragon.

A closeup of the man’s face to show detailing in the painting.

Got inspired by a photo on the @sktchy.bsky.social app that reminded me so much of Dorothy from one of my favorite books, The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton 🥰 #fanart #bookillustration #katemorton #characterart

Digital drawing of a woman in a large brown fur coat, she is standing at what appears to be a train station and her brown hair and makeup is vaguely 1940s inspired with soft waves and a red lip. She is looking directly at the viewer with an expression that appears calm but has traces of fear, exhaustion, and sadness, but is not unkind.

Quote with your night art 🌚🌙✨ “Desert Night” - I grew up in Arizona, so when Nnedi Okorafor described her experience of driving deep in the desert late at night, I knew exactly what that felt like, and had to draw a picture of it. 🥰

So happy to share this commissioned piece for @acguesswrites.bsky.social‘s upcoming special edition! I always love getting to draw a dragon. 🥰

Digital painting of a black dragon on a rooftop, pulling a man up off of his feet by biting the back of the man’s cloak. The rooftop is lit by moonlight and covered in snow. Snow covered mountains and a starry sky can be seen in the background.

Had to take a short video of the cicadas this evening, they were so loud! I really can’t fathom how anyone could find this annoying - I find it pretty magical. I always think of @nnedi.bsky.social when the cicadas sing. You inspire me to stop and appreciate nature’s magical moments!

Quote with your failed unpublished art ✨🫠 Let's show that making mistakes isn't scary ~~ Started this one and just… didn’t know how to finish it. I think the main problem is that it’s the kind of illustration that needed more prep work but I jumped straight into rendering with just a loose sketch

From Every Heart a Doorway by @seananmcguire.bsky.social “‘When I went through, I was in a grove of pomegranate trees. I thought I'd fallen and hit my head. I kept going because...’ …Because the air had smelled so sweet, and the sky had been black velvet, spangled with points of diamond light —

…Because the air had smelled so sweet, and the sky had been black velvet, spangled with points of diamond light that didn't flicker at all, only burned constant and cold. Because the grass had been wet with dew, and the trees had been heavy with fruit. Because she had wanted to know what was at the end of the long path between the trees, and because she hadn't wanted to turn back before she understood everything. Because for the first time in forever, she'd felt like she was going home, and that feeling had been enough to move her feet, slowly at first, and then faster, and faster, until she had been running through the clean night air, and nothing else had mattered, or would ever matter again-“

Sometimes a piece of art just speaks to me. I’ve been making a concerted effort to buy prints of artwork that inspires me and hang them up around the house so I knew I had to get a print when I saw they were available on Artstation 🥰 “The King of the Golden Hall” by Magdalena Katańska

Framed painting of Theoden, King of Rohan posing with his horse for a portrait. The first time I saw this piece I was completely blown away, and continue to be awed every time I look at it! I knew I had to get a print when I saw they were available on Artstation, then managed to frame it as majestically as it deserves. 🥰
