I made my very first cyanotype today with fresh cut cosmos and bulbine from my garden! I’ve been wanting to play around with this for years, and finally gave it a shot today
Flowers arranged on cyanotype paper on a clipboard laying in the sun Exposed, undeveloped cyanotype with the flowers removed, where the background is kinda gray and the areas that were under the flowers are white and blueFreshly developed print where the background is a vivid deep blue, and the silhouettes from the flowers are white

I’ve made my calls to my representatives, so it’s time to share these four beautiful nerds. More here: images.nasa.gov #ArtemisII
The Artemis II crew – Mission Specialist Christina Koch (top left), Mission Specialist Jeremy Hansen (bottom left), Commander Reid Wiseman (bottom right), and Pilot Victor Glover (top right) – uses eclipse viewers, identical to what NASA produced for the 2023 annular eclipse and 2024 total solar eclipse, to protect their eyes at key moments during the solar eclipse they experienced during their lunar flyby. This was the first use of eclipse glasses at the Moon to safely view a solar eclipse.

I made egg bites this weekend too! Mine have spinach, broccoli slaw, mushroom & turkey bacon, seasoned w/ 1/4 tsp ea of garlic & onion powders, and 1/8 tsp ea salt & pepper. I use 8oz egg whites & add two whole eggs. I have a set of silicone muffin liners, and they work perfectly for these!

I stumbled upon another Mad Men editing error. In S02E04 when Father Gill drops Peggy off at her apartment after Sunday dinner, the street changes from 1960s New York to 2000s Los Angeles.
Turquoise car across parked on the street in front of a barber shop, P. O'Mara newsstand, nameless pizza place, and nameless stationery & cigars shop. On the curb are assorted metal trashcans.Same car parked in same spot on street, but the barber shop is now Amir Travel, P. O'Mara newsstand is now One Stop Tarjetas Telefonicas, the nameless pizza place is now Corleone Pizza, and the nameless stationery & cigars shop is Don Burro - The best tacos and burritos in LA. The trashcans are also now missing from the curb.

Walking into the living room, I stumble upon this scene. I shout around the corner to my husband, cooking dinner in the kitchen, “When did you put my hat on the capybara?!” “Like, hours ago,” he laughs. I’ve been sitting next to this cool dude for hours now, and I had no idea.
Plush capybara wearing a charcoal cable knit beanie is sitting on a dark blue couch next to a white cat curled up on a pile of grey blankets. They are both asleep.

I had the unique privilege of growing up as the child of a city streets employee. My dad created and maintained streets in San Diego. So he knew where everything was and how to get there. For anywhere else, we used AAA tour books for hotels and restaurants, and Thomas guides to get there.

I, uh, forgot to halve the dough recipe. Good news is that I season my dough with garlic & onion powders, salt, Italian seasoning, and chili flakes. So while this “pizza” is now mostly bread, at least it’s tasty bread!

When I worked with McDonald’s in 2018, I was part of their Burger Hack hackathon. My team piloted an NLP voice ordering system, and we won Xboxes for our project! I remember another team who used computer vision to recognize food boxes being placed in bags to get to go orders right 🍔

“The humanity in them recognises the turbo-charged humanity in others and that simple recognition makes people cry. Here is all the grief, anxiety, frustration, and yes, rage you've been hanging onto. Or maybe it's love, respect, and care. Because haka can do both.”
And again, this my own interpretation and by no means should be taken as canon, but imagine that you took all of your love, your mamae, your self-respect, your responsibilities towards your ancestors and your mokopuna, your pride, your grief, your rage, your fear, and YOUR POWER - basically your humanity in all its unfettered glory and you turned it into pure intention and let it vibrate your hands and the air around you as you forced it out into the world with your whole throat. And also the person right next to you is doing the same thing so you have that solidarity and shared intention with other people as part of it.

Would it break you apart on its way out? Would it tear through the fabric of timespace? Would you be the same person afterwards? Would some piece of you stay in the air as a warning or a comfort?

Reading “Unmasking AI: My Mission to Protect What Is Human in a World of Machines” by Joy Buolamwini
In a world where decisions about our lives are increasingly informed by algorithmic decision-making, we cannot have racial justice if we adopt technical tools for the criminal legal system that only further incarcerate communities of color. We cannot have gender equality if we employ AI tools that use historic hiring data that reflect sexist practices to inform future candidate selections that disadvantage women and gender minorities. We cannot say we are advocating for disability rights and create AI-powered tools that erase the existence of people who are differently abled by adopting ableist design patterns. We cannot claim to respect privacy rights and then have our school systems adopt AI-powered surveillance systems that reduce children to data to be sorted, tracked, and reprimanded for deviating from the algorithmic standard. If the AI systems we create to power key aspects of society—from education to healthcare, from employment to housing—mask discrimination and systematize harmful bias, we entrench algorithmic injustice. We swap fallible human gatekeepers for machines that are also flawed but assumed to be objective. And when machines fail, the people who often have the least resources and most limited access to power structures are those who have to experience the worst outcomes.

A proper lil loaf. Needs more jalapeño, could also benefit from garlic, but still good. I also want to try a cinnamon, date & walnut version of this recipe, I think
Jalapeño and cheddar cheese loaf cut in half to reveal the middle. Pockets of cheese and bits of jalapeño can be seen throughout. The loaf was baked in a 10x5” loaf pan, slightly smaller than a loaf of sandwich bread that you’d buy at the grocery
