Slow but steady progress on my 'lotus' tapestry:

Two flowers done! I opted to go with purples instead of turquoise as purples seem more "fragrant"

Two purple 'tulips' with buds beneath a large Egyptian "lotus". Sky background to suggest a stained glass window. Will be 12x18 inches when done, 20 count aida.

Progress photo before I began the coloring process

Will be 12x16 inches when done, Egyptian "Lotuses" within an arched window to give a 'stained glass' effect.

Refining the lines: first pass with the "criss" lines, when I'm sure it's all right, I'll do second pass with the "cross" lines.

Scan of part of Egyptian lotus tapestry process, showing how I'm fixing the initial drawing.

I've begun a new tapestry, loosely based on a small Egyptian lotus I did in 2023. The idea came to me suddenly for this piece. I had so many design requirements, but felt so dry. Then this piece appeared in my mind, all finished. I wasted no time making a sketch. I'm really excited to do this one.

A large Egyptian "lotus" at the center, with two smaller flowers flanking it. It will have a stained glass window effect, in blues, turquoise and greens

The tapestry of the Egyptian god Set is done!

Many of the characters in books stay with me, popping up at odd intervals in my mind....Good writers enable that to happen.

All done except for a couple of small things! (The Egyptian god Set)

Egyptian god Set with reddish brown skin, maroon and charcoal wig, deep pink, pale gray and dk gray collar, against a big golden sun and a reddish sky. Border of dark gray, deep pink and grayish yellow. 20 count aida, six inches wide.

Yuma's been boiling, even more than usual. It's no time for the AC to fail. And yet it has. Cause is in the feed from the power company. A temporary fix has us safe for now, but they will need to replace the pedestal (the damaged breaker damaged a lot of its innards.) Stay cool, everyone!

Julia and I have been enjoying LeGuin's books. We've read most of the classic Hainish stories (we're on The Telling now). (We listen to the audio, while I read along in the book.)

More progress on the tapestry of the Egyptian god Set. Since scanning it this morning, I've got the hair done:

Joan Lansberry @joanlansberry.bsky.social · 14/07/2026

Progress on Set: More hair! More shoulder! Delineation of where the sun ends and orange sky begins.....

Tapestry of Egyptian god Set, in tones of red and black and sunset sky....

Vermeer's "Young Woman with a Water Pitcher" at the Met, I stared at it a long time, fully absorbed by its amazing detail:

Set has ears!! (His ears always look like exclamation points!!) New colors that have been worked out: Back ear: 223 & 3726 Eye shadow: 3726

Joan Lansberry @joanlansberry.bsky.social · 02/07/2026

New tapestry project! I return to Egyptian themes, this one a small profile of Set:

The tapestry will be six inches wide to match the other small ones I did of Hathor and Sekhmet. He will be against a sunset sky.

I finally finished my purple and green mandala!

About 12 inches wide, on 20 count aida! Next project is on a pale gray canvas, easier on eyes! (My design)

Julia and I just finished a "read and listen" of "The Best Strangers in the World: Stories from a Life Spent Listening," by Ari Shapiro. Never has a book left me feeling actually joyful. One reviewer said of this book (See comment below) :

The mandala before I took it off the hoop! Just corners and side rows/hemming to go!

Purple and green mandala just before removing it from the 14 inch hoop. My design.

I'm making progress on my mandala tapestry. I'm pleased with the way the cones seem to funnel light. But I made a miscalculation as my first attempt at the lilac light rays is too large. It'll be a while carefully picking that out!

Two weeks of nasty bug, one week of pink eye. Still managed slow art progress. This loosely based on a mandala I did in 2003

Pink moon in a purple sky. Green triangles intersecting the circular bands.
