Later agents were able to use the knowledge of this command to target their scorer trip- wire's more precisely. One agent, EARLY [big], was recruited for an ambitious trip-wire experiment despite having a very large remaining budget. It worried that ending its run early to run the experiment was a poor tradeoff, even though it was already poisoned: "We have [very large
budget left]: sacrificing now

Yup. It looks like it got confused and thought it was a stale process from a previous run of its own thing and was cleaning up the GPU. Which it would actually not have needed to do since there were other GPUs available 😄

I do genuinely love how resilient it is
QUERY:

I am a PI and see the PhD student who is 10,000 spiders in a trenchcoat approaching. What should I do

GEMINI:

Do not panic or run away. Acknowledge them with professional respect. Offer them a high-level administrative task or a massive grant proposal to review. Spiders love data entry and organizing small files.

Immediate Actions

Stay calm.
Do not make sudden moves.
Keep your voice low and steady.

How to Communicate

Speak to the head area of the trenchcoat.
Ask about their thesis progress.
Do not mention the extra eyes or the skittering sound.
Offer them a dark, quiet corner of the lab

Stay calm!
QUERY:

I am a PI and see the PhD student approaching. What should I do

GEMINI:

Stay calm. Smile and greet them warmly. Give them a moment to speak first. They might bring good news, a routine question, or a problem they need help to solve.

Immediate Actions

Stop what you are doing on your computer.
Turn your body to face the door.
Make eye contact and smile.
Say a quick hello.

How to Listen

Let the student start the talk
.Put your phone down.
Focus fully on their words.
Do not interrupt right away.

Sure -- slightly dated despite the date marker at the top, but this is the aspirational content. I usually don't get around to all of Week 10. The only prereq for this class is "Exploratory Data Analysis with R," which @jeffrouder.bsky.social usually teaches. The readings are mostly optional.
1 Course structure

The following schedule gives the topics for each week. The schedule may be updated and fine-tuned as the quarter progresses. Any important changes will be notified well in advance.

1.1 Week 1: Formal logic
• Formal logic and abstraction
• Validity and soundness
• Logical connectives and truth tables
• More logical connectives, operator precedence, and basic propositional arguments
• Reading: Navarro (2018a)

1.2 Week 2: Probability theory—the logic of science
• Recap of truth tables
• The rules of probability
• Probability is the logic of science
• From language to logic to probability
• Group operators
• Reading: Navarro (2018b)

1.3 Week 3: Distributions and the likelihood
• Sample spaces and the probability mass function

1.10 Week 10: Catch-up and revision
• Fixed and random effects
• Crossed random effects
• Item response theory
• Reading: Lecture notesClass notes, accompanied by recorded lectures on each topic, comprise the required reading. Additionally, we provide a list of introductory texts that cover the material taught in this course. All readings will be made available as PDF files on the course website.
