@vicgrinberg look what you did. (I showed my wife your post, and she promptly found a bookstore that had it in stock.)

There is a special place in hell reserved for the inventor of the magic link as the primary login mechanism. (I think it was Slack? Which can go to hell for many other reasons besides.) "Logging in to your Velocity account just got easier […] Instead of […] [Original post on fosstodon.org]

Logging in to your Velocity account just got easier

Hi Juan,

We’re letting you know about an update to how you log in to your Velocity Frequent Flyer account. Logging in is now faster and more secure on recognised web-browsers and devices.

Instead of entering your Velocity number and password every time you access Velocity, you’ll receive a one-time 6-digit code sent to your email or mobile to confirm your identity.

As part of this update, you’ll be logged out of your Velocity account the next time you visit. Simply follow the steps below to set up the new login experience.

Happy New Year from Oz! 2025 was rough. Let’s try to turn this ship around, shall we?

On my Safari, for #GitHub PRs the labels panel look like the screenshot on the left — little chrome, label descriptions, little x on the right to clear a label. On issues, it looks like the screenshot on the right, with clear tick boxes for each label, and […] [Original post on fosstodon.org]

I'm so sad by how thoroughly shit the web has become.
A dialog on a website that reads:

You entered an email address on our site and we would like to send you specific information about your visit and interests that you have shown. Your contact details will not be used for any other purpose, and you can opt out at any time.

You can click "I consent" or a tiny X on the top-right corner.A newspaper website. In the background is not the article, but a notice saying "this article requires a subscription". (Fair enough.) Overlaid on that is a dialog: "it looks like you're using an ad blocker" with a prompt to turn off your ad blocker. Overlaid on *that* is *another* dialog "We would like to show you notifications", with "Allow" in high contrast and "No thanks" text that doesn't look like a button.

My in-laws gave us a slow-cooker for Christmas that they've had since 1980. It works a treat and we absolutely love it. Can you imagine any of the wifi-connected, app-controlled “smart" appliances you can buy today working in 2070? What an absolute trash heap […] [Original post on fosstodon.org]

(1) what kind of sociopath forks but doesn't immediately clone, and (2) why are the GitHub CLI team enabling them
screenshot of the "gh" command-line interface showing the command "gh repo fork" and the UI prompting with "would you like to clone the fork", which inexplicably defaults to NO.

@loicaroyer.bsky.social Neat! I'm curious about the rendering parameters/tricks e.g. to get such sharp lines at the big-cube borders — they (correctly?) look razor-thin in @napari. gist.github.com/jni/14f9fbf388b4e12…

Ok so I'm fucking done with streaming generally and #AppleMusic specifically. The greyed out songs are actually *purchases* from the iTunes days, supposedly DRM-free. But #Apple won't sync them because I’ve moved countries? Fuck that shit. Any recommendations […] [Original post on fosstodon.org]
