Fulmar - the highest recorded species in SMP for 2024, 2025, and 2026 (so far). Young Fulmar don't return to breeding sites until they are four or five, and even then, don't breed until they're nine! #Seabirds @btobirds.bsky.social @jncc.bsky.social @rspb.bsky.social

They use "distance sampling", a proven scientific method that accounts for animals that go undetected, giving us more robust estimates of species abundance They also share their knowledge with passengers, inspiring a new audience to care about marine conservation

On evidence and monitoring, we explored how data feeds into decision-making, using our Air Pollution Assessment Service as a case study, and introduced the Common Standards for Monitoring Approach, including the role of Earth Observation data.

Our new indicator shows that 77.5% of assessed endemic species are threatened with extinction, underlining the importance of ongoing action to protect some of the UK's most unique wildlife.
