That guy looks a lot like famous comedian Tim Heidecker, but based on all the replies here I guess it’s a serious interviewer who just happens to look similar.

This is what I call the Reverse Midlife Crisis. What do you mean this is only halfway??

It isn’t even enforced on all runs either. If you’re tip toeing down the sideline with the ball in your outside arm, it might have crossed the sideline 50 yards before you’re pushed out.

“I care about football, for my family, my faith and my country” is more Republican-coded than anything Trump has said in the last 6 months

Maybe so. I know I’d rather try to deal with the consequences of climate change without rivers on fire and enough coal pollutants in the air to darken the sun

None of those have been axed and it would take decades of unregulated polluting to get back to as bad as it was prior to their implementation. The environment is one aspect of society with obvious, large-scale improvements in recent history due to policy. You’re proving the OP’s point.

It depends. GHGs and the ongoing and future effects of climate change are obviously terrifying. But you don’t have to go any further back than the 70s to see how much improvement there’s been on pollution, for example. The CAA, CWA, Montreal Protocol, etc. have been massive successes overall

What you’re describing is how journalism is already supposed to work. If you need to implement “some objective and verifiable criteria” pre-filter then the AI does nothing to achieve objectivity - it already exists in however you’re implementing that.

No, what sounds like a Republican is “the profession that is famously riddled with misinformation and biased reporting”…because that’s literally been a nonsense Republican talking point for years.

(I honestly couldn’t care less about the Tafoya thing, FWIW. But what you’re describing is just completely contrary to everything I’ve experienced anywhere I’ve lived or visited in the U.S.)
000
Jonathan Mud Studd @jmstudd.bsky.social · 14/08/2026
I don’t think that’s even a realistic question in the first place. No one would ask “What part of Buffalo are you from?” if you hadn’t already indicated you grew up there. If you said, “I’ve lived in Snyder for a year” the natural follow up would be “Ok, but where are you from?”
100
Jonathan Mud Studd @jmstudd.bsky.social · 14/08/2026
Really? That’s an extremely uncommon way to answer that question, IME. “Where do you live?” and “Where are you from?” are completely different questions.
110
Jonathan Mud Studd @jmstudd.bsky.social · 14/08/2026
Yeah, that’s not at all relevant to the example with Tafoya though, right? So the specific scenario you cherry picked as the 1 example that might be confusing? Also, the vast majority of people I’ve encountered would still say “I live in ______, but I grew up in _______.”
020
Jonathan Mud Studd @jmstudd.bsky.social · 14/08/2026
Who said it doesn’t? You can’t seem to figure out what you’re arguing here. The question “where are you from?” pretty universally refers to where you grew up and spent your formative years. What’s the confusion?
110
Jonathan Mud Studd @jmstudd.bsky.social · 14/08/2026
What kind of gotcha bullshit are you trying to pull to bolster your argument here? The best thing about the U.S. is that you can be “truly American” even if you aren’t from here.

Since I see your Bills hat…I lived in WNY until I was 22, the idea that I’d ever say I was from somewhere else is absurd to me, even though I haven’t lived there since
000
Jonathan Mud Studd @jmstudd.bsky.social · 14/08/2026
If someone specifically asked “where are you from?”…yes? That is how the vast majority of people would respond. I’ve never met a single person who spent the first 25 years of their life in 1 state who would claim otherwise.

How does that relate to speed/red light cameras though? Sure, a cop can claim you were driving recklessly or whatever. The camera is taking a photo of every car going above a certain speed - you can reduce your chance of being caught by one to effectively 0 by not driving above that speed.

My background is in evolutionary biology…I’ve been reading Bergstrom’s work for well over a decade, including that paper. Regardless, I’m not interested in engaging with you any further, particularly in Katie’s thread.

I’d suggest reading the paper.

Jonathan Mud Studd @jmstudd.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
Did you read the paper that prompted this thread? One of the main points is that it’s not as binary as useful vs. not, and even if it were, “useful” is open to interpretation (e.g., is doing more but worse work useful?)

There should be some kind of rule that before you complain about an Onion headline, you first have to explain what you think the punchline is supposed to be. We’d still have to deal w/ these insufferable people, but at least we’d know if they’re even mad about the right thing.
