Unhinged email from someone I don't know because of a LinkedIn post is enough for me to never use it again. Complain about Bluesky all you want, but I have yet to receive such an email from it (please don't be the first!)

It’s increasingly clear that higher admins at many universities don’t respect (maybe don’t even like) the mission of higher education generally

Ok, I've done this experiment enough times (and it is replicable) to say with highest confidence that when I'm in a foul mood, ice cream makes me feel better. Eat ice cream. Even in the morning.

if Trump does manage to catalyze the destruction of fossil capital (politically speaking) the Marxist histories of this era written 40 years from now are going to be magnificent

No one should be able to spend this much money in an electoral system. We can have democracy or we can have billionaires. Either/or not a both/and situation. Also, what a fucking loser.

It seems that there is a shift from those struggling to straight up disengagement in my class. It's larger- 50- but not really this level before

this is what I'm experiencing. Not really lost or overwhelmed, just total disengagement

I'm not trying to shame students/ be a way for people to brag about what a great teacher they are. I'm wondering if there has been a shift where we are losing a not insignificant portion of students

I'm seeing a real bifurcation in the classroom this quarter that is more pronounced than ever. The students that are motivated are doing the reading, coming to class, participating, etc. The rest are more disengaged than ever and not even doing the bare minimum. Anyone else getting this?

People are going to read this, nodding along, without realizing that they are the ones being talked about in this piece. Can’t fight climate change without taking on capitalism. Say it with your whole chest.

I also argue that liberals find themselves allied with the petroauthoritarian right because both factions share the commitment to protecting capital above all other considerations, including the human future on this planet. 2/n
What allies the authoritarian right and the center-left is their commitment to protecting capital above all. Decarbonizing will likely create millions of new jobs in the U.S. and establish new industries and services worldwide. Economic studies show that phasing out fossil fuels and creating a net-zero economy inside ecological boundaries will lead to better economic outcomes than doing nothing. Climate impacts are already contributing to inflation, costing U.S. households between $400 and $900 per year, on average. And continued climate change will likely curtail economic growth. By one estimate it could make growth roughly 23 percent smaller than it would have been otherwise; by another it could worst-case contract the global economy so percent over the next 40-50 years. And these economic effects are already starting to occur. The costs of this summer's heat waves and fires in Europe are projected actually to zero out the continent's entire projected growth for 2026. But none of that poses much of a current financial threat to members of the global capital faction, which is to say ruling-class asset holders and rentiers, who can afford the current costs of climate change while watching their stock portfolios grow to record highs from the Al boom / bubble. However, asset holders and rentiers do face an economic threat from the phaseout of fossil fuels, and for the fossil fuel industry itself, that threat is existential.

Hey California! Be careful this election because the big money creeps are trying to trick you (again).
There's a trap on your ballot in California. Here's how to get past it.
1. Prop 40: 250 billionaires pay with they owe so hospitals, schools, and food assistant survive the federal cuts. Vote yes.
2. Props 41 and 42: paid for by billionaires to cancel prop 40. Vote no.
3. Tell one person, because the confusion is the plan.
Yes I'm 40. No on 41 and 42.
