Added to my watchlist! 🫡 I'm about to be off the grid (no cell signal or wifi) for the next 8 days but I'll watch when I return to civilization and report the thoughts of my wife and I haha

If you've never seen Lucky (2020) I can't recommend it enough. If possible, try to watch without seeing what the premise is beforehand. It's on Shudder and streaming free on Hoopla (in the US, at least) I've hosted a monthly horror movie night for 11 yrs and it's a legend among the gang

As someone still fighting the good fight and refusing to use AI, I think the people who have accepted it have probably just been worn down by the past decade of realizing that western society is not a democracy anymore (if it ever was) and nothing changes even if they hate various new institutions

The Oilers have practically been on a mission the past few years to acquire the worst people: Evander Kane, Corey Perry, Stan Bowman, Formenton... I actually think I'm forgetting one or two as well.

I mean, I think the movie definitely did have something to say about the military industrial complex but it certainly wasn't an art film

My wife and I both loved it. Was stunned to discover it's been receiving middling reviews

James Mellish @jmellish.bsky.social · 06/09/2026

For additional context, I saw I Saw the TV Glow and parsed that one without issue and loved it instantly. I watched Camp Miasma without even knowing the premise so I didn't know it was same director. Part of the way thru I thought "Hm, these music selections are giving ISTTVG vibes..."

James Mellish @jmellish.bsky.social · 06/09/2026

I watched it (cis guy) and walked out feeling a bit lost and mixed feelings. Even said "I know it takes longer to understand queer films when you're not queer." Digested it for a day, discussed with my wife, cracked it, instantly said "Okay, I really like it now"

James Mellish @jmellish.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

Agreed. My parents taught me from a young age that paying a premium just for a specific logo or brand is stupid. The only people it impresses are people who worship consumerism and material wealth. Not the folks I'm tryna hang with

Friend at the dealership sold a car to an NFL player. They drove a couple things that the player admitted his wife and him loved. But he said he couldn't buy those cars cause he only wanted something that no one else on the team owned. Perception of others was more important than his own experience

It's about showing off to other people. Having a big dumb touch screen is a better 'flex' than saying 'erm, actually touch screens are dangerous.'

0141

James Mellish @jmellish.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

Also pisses me off because I sold Benzes for a year right after college (2015) and we were always proud to say we didn't use touch screens because safety is MB's highest priority and touch screens aren't safe. So they literally know this shit is dangerous but don't care anymore

He falls asleep in meetings. He's not a savant. He's an extremely distracting puppet, which is why he is so dangerous and effective. His chaotic nature is why he has been "successful" but none of that success has been intentional on HIS part. The string pullers have twisted it all in their favor

Saying he managed to become president is like saying Elon Musk managed to make a functional rocket. He didn't do anything. There are teams and teams of people and millions of dollars in financing that made him president. His own abilities were absolutely not a factor.

I had a German professor (meaning they taught German) and he would legit give an A on any quiz if you drew a squirrel on it. This tip was passed around by his students and was (unbelievably) true. I remember shamefully drawing one on a quiz that I left multiple answers blank. Still got the A

I can only imagine this contract is a result of overestimating both a player's current value and how dramatically the cap will grow over the next handful of years

020

James Mellish @jmellish.bsky.social · 01/07/2026

His counting stats from the past two years are solid (his underlyings not so much...) and pedigree is a hell of a drug. Look at how much money Gudbranson made in his career despite being a disaster every step of the way.

James Mellish @jmellish.bsky.social · 01/07/2026

Brady trade and Eklund trade boosted my interest in the Sens for next season but basically every move since, especially re-signing Cousins has me feeling pretty confident that, like last season, I will not be watching the Sens in 26-27

Sometimes number patterns in sports just bewilder my brain. Like why has Eugenio Suarez hit exactly 49 home runs three times in his career? And his next highest HR total below that is only 34. What is the deal? The consistency of the inconsistency is really something 🤔
