CM Lin says he feels like they're looking at different facts or stats and asks how much was added to the budget for SPD? A: $68M Q: Are you aware of any other dept who received such a large increase? % change? A: No. Q: Would you call such a large decrease a defund or unfund of the police?

We need to start putting CM's under oath before hearings. The current crop has a real problem with basic facts.

This is sexual violence as a form of terrorism. It is political violence and it is chilling and horrific, and AOC was absolutely right to be terrified that the goons (now pardoned) laying siege to the capital would rape her if they found her. Small changes won't fix this. FLIP THE TABLE NOW

If you are a man and/or a defender of Cornell, go read the leaked snapchat. Not a summary. Go look at what these men said about what they did. The racial slurs aren't being reported. What they said about her condition isn't being reported. It's horrific.

Get ready. Policing is about to get really really bad in Seattle. Patrol will be made up of about 50-100 60-year-old cops phoning it in on their way the door and barely trained 20-something rookies with itchy triggerfingers. All making twice as much as a normal city employee.

SPD's budget is growing, driven by the generous raise in the police officer contract negotiated under Harrell. "An SPD whose budget is seeing a net increase of 13% due to increased contract costs, also has a reduction of approximately 2% to civilian positions, hiring incentives, and marketing."

At least annually, @seattletimes-rss.bsky.social promotes a misleading article about how there are no kids downtown. Always a good feeling to be told your family and neighbors don't exist. Helps the City feel better about not building schools or parks I guess.

It took great efforts for me avoid stridency, if I did... "Madden avoids stridency... His prescriptions call for the government to build housing, communities to allow it, and that housing to be made available to all" booklife.com/booklife-rev...

“Everybody sleeps somewhere,” community development professional Madden writes in this illuminating survey of the ongoing housing crisis—and a possible path forward. That declaration is the heart of Bittersweet Lane, in which Madden blends memoir, history, and urgent reportage to lay bare the crisis from both personal and professional perspectives. He argues that an “underlying bias” has long shaped housing policy: that “some are worthy of this help, some aren’t.” Madden demonstrates the harm this principle still causes, often drawing on his own experience; he writes with clear eyes and moving frankness about coming from a legacy of poverty. That history has fueled Madden’s work within the housing world as a project manager and also his passionate advocacy for solving the housing crisis.
