Am familiar with AOL keywords, but I never had the pleasure.

JKRetroTech @jkretrotech.net · 01/10/2026

Watching an old episode of Net Cafe and the word "convergence" came up. I forgot how we overused that buzzword in the early broadband days. What's your favourite obsolete tech buzzword?

Hey again. Did you publish that blog post? I'd still like to read it.

He won't live forever, and time heals all wounds. If you all focus on protecting your democracy, we can recover from this... in time. We're rooting for you.

JKRetroTech @jkretrotech.net · 17/09/2026

Canadians would settle simply for USA to stop threatening us. Beyond that, any petulance from the USA we can handle just fine. As we always have. 😜

Will Wayne Gretzky whiskey be exempt from the US ban?

JKRetroTech @jkretrotech.net · 09/09/2026

.. also, that Stacy is beautiful, btw. 🙂 I've never even seen one in person.

It's exhausting, and seems like it could still get worse before it gets better, but I remain hopeful that it WILL get better. It must. Don't let them take away your joy.

JKRetroTech @jkretrotech.net · 17/07/2026

Is there an image of this online somewhere? Seems like there oughta be, but I can't find one. Do I need to break the seal and take it out of the book?

Time to repost this again. 🇨🇦 Happy Canada Day! 🇨🇦

Anybody else collect stuff over the years, then have difficulty making time to actually use and enjoy it all?

Very cool! Though it confuses me that the layer mask values seem to be inverted from what I would normally expect. i.e. white areas in a layer mask would make those areas of the layer fully opaque and black transparent. Wouldn't they? Seems like the opposite is happening here. Or I'm being dumb.

JKRetroTech @jkretrotech.net · 25/03/2026

I wish you all could smell what I'm smelling right now. It's amazing. #maplesyrup

This is what my hands look like during maple syrup season. After a scrub and shower, they will look the same. It'll be weeks before they get back to looking like my normal computer geek hands. 🤪

A look at my roughed up, semi-permanently dirty right hand.

If the intent is to mesmerize, then it is in fact, very efficient.

JKRetroTech @jkretrotech.net · 18/03/2026

I feel like maybe there's not a lot of crossover between maple syrup nerds and retro computing nerds. Amirite?

JKRetroTech @jkretrotech.net · 18/03/2026

I spent the whole day in the woods alone and freezing my butt off while boiling sap to fill just 6 bottles with maple syrup. It was a great day. When the syrup season is over, I'll get back to nerdy stuff. (yes, I fill old whiskey bottles with syrup. It's just for me/family/friends)

A shot of a whiskey bottle filled with maple syrup held up in front of my sugar shack.

We're smack into the middle of #MARCHintosh and these poor Macs aren't getting any love. Look at these neglected little ones stuck on some bottom shelf behind some random junk. Is this a felony? #retrocomputing

Just realized that I committed the sin of not adding alt text to this image. I offer my humble apology. (If I could edit the post, I would add the following alt text: A photo showing 2 pages showcasing the IBM 5150 computer in the book Digital Retro by Gordon Laing.)

JKRetroTech @jkretrotech.net · 27/01/2026

Casually browsing through the book Digital Retro by Gordon Laing. A wonderful coffee table book showcasing some popular computers from the late 70s through 80s. I like it a lot even though it glosses over the Coco for some reason! #retrocomputing #books

Seems to me that it's mostly just the power users and nerds who struggle with Linux troubleshooting issues nowadays. Most regular users are satisfied to boot up, then load their web browser and go. They have little need to troubleshoot other more complicated issues.
