Jared Lindquist @jklind.bsky.social · 05/10/2026They have to go in with a solid plan. Is there an ending the series is building up to? How long does it take to get there? How well does the pilot set everything up? Will each episode stand on its own? Some ideas are just half-baked, "we'll figure it out as we go" 100

Jared Lindquist @jklind.bsky.social · 05/10/2026there are indie showrunners who I wish would/could give a TED talk, going into detail on how they got their shows off the ground. What worked for them is not likely to work for anyone else, but I still want to know. 100
Jared Lindquist @jklind.bsky.social · 05/10/2026No matter how they try to stammer through that their idea is clearly on the screen, I would shoot back "yes, I can see that. But where are YOU? Your ideas are there, but YOU are not" ...they'd probably take that a bit to literally, but it could kick off a lecture on the subtle extras. 250
Jared Lindquist @jklind.bsky.social · 05/10/2026One day one of my students would proudly present a full short that they made with AI, & expecting praise. I would watch it objectively, silently with the class. When it's finished, I would look directly at that student and ask "where are you? I don't see any aspect of you in your video" 181
Jared Lindquist @jklind.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I can see that. Williams seemed to me to be a very detail-oriented artist, and Sher Khan had so many details to try to keep consistent. 000
Jared Lindquist @jklind.bsky.social · 05/10/2026That clip of Sher Khan was animated in the 1960s. No immediate playback, other than manually flipping the drawings. To really see if the animation worked, you had to shoot a pencil test, and wait until the next day for the film to be developed. Milt was showing off, because he could. 070
Jared Lindquist @jklind.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Think about that. His signature is forever there on the screen, for those who recognize it. It's there, but it isn't distracting. It makes the character feel more alive. All artists do this, in one way or another. It's also part of why AI is so lifeless - it lacks that extra personal touch. 050
Jared Lindquist @jklind.bsky.social · 05/10/2026If I were ever to teach an animation class, sooner or later I would show my students a montage of Milt Kahl's head wobbles. You could tell if he'd animated a character, if they shook their head for emphasis while talking. It wasn't just his thing, it was something few others could do at all.static.klipy.comKaa Shere KhanALT: Kaa Shere Khan 5180

Jared Lindquist @jklind.bsky.social · 04/10/2026The ones I kinda wanted to get in on were the ones that were basically "draw your character in this thing that barely counts as clothing." Problem was, those outfits are always a poor fit for any of my characters that folks would want to see wearing them. 010
Jared Lindquist @jklind.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Seems like there's always some art meme that I'm just too slow (or uninterested) to take part in. Sometimes I do feel like I'm missing out, though. ...this latest one has me realizing that I don't need attention THAT badly. 280
Jared Lindquist @jklind.bsky.social · 03/10/2026To me that speaks to the talent of real character designers. An AI will barf up a mix of Disney & Pixar characters it's been trained off of, while a character designer will be like "this girl is built like a gorilla and has a face to match, but I still made her girly & cute AF because I COULD" 000

Jared Lindquist @jklind.bsky.social · 29/09/2026There might've been a number of factors. When the cell were recorded to film, the camera settings might've muddied the colors & softened the image. When converted to HD, the quality of the film print might've been another issue. For 4K, a lot of companies simply upscale HD. 020

Jared Lindquist @jklind.bsky.social · 28/09/2026I just think it would be fun if repeated use of AI could somehow melt their devices. Maybe have it display a laughing skull & crossbones just before it happens, like in 1990s movie hacking. 110
Jared Lindquist @jklind.bsky.social · 28/09/2026...I really, really hate having to share space with AI users who pat themselves on the back for the "effort" of typing a prompt, when they put even less thought into the story/joke they felt needed to be told. Jared Lindquist @jklind.bsky.social · 27/09/2026There was one app over 20 years ago - Photo modeler, I think? - that had you match at least 3 points between pairs of photos. With enough points & pairs, it would figure out the camera position & angle, but you had to do the modeling yourself. Modern apps auto-match points, and they SUCK at it. 000
Jared Lindquist @jklind.bsky.social · 27/09/2026With the number of pictures I've taken around Disney World's Magic Kingdom - not to mention various walk-around videos on Youtube - I would think a decent 3D photo scanner could recreate the entire park. Jared Lindquist @jklind.bsky.social · 26/09/2026For me, it's more about its presentation than the film itself. The film was recorded twice - one with a 2.35:1 aspect ratio, and the other reformatted for 1.33:1. This release is the only time that 1.33:1 version was released on video. All other releases just cropped the wide version. 000
