Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 03/10/2026We have cameras that can measure the spin rate of baseballs, but we are still deciding field goals with some old guy craning his neck. 010
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Damn, even at Triple-A Clayton Beeter can’t be trusted in a big spot. 011
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Jackson Kent hasn’t pitched very well, but he will also be at a disadvantage in that the Nats probably won’t want 4 lefty starters in their rotation (in the event that they don’t sign anyone else). 000
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 20/09/2026Legitimately haven’t enjoyed watching them like this for like 20 years. 000
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 13/09/2026The two areas I thought the Dolphins would be decent this year were running the ball and stopping the run. We are horrific at both. 000
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Yeah I’m excited about the defense but this line is going to be a big problem against real teams. 000
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 11/09/2026My god. The Angels are about to offer him a contract. 021
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 09/09/2026Nats could have at least had the decency to blow the record-setting save after midnight so as not to do it on my birthday. 021
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 02/09/2026Been through a few rain delays at Nats Park, but chatting with @kenjennings.bsky.social about Victor Robles will definitely go down as the most memorable. 230
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 29/08/2026Brady House hit this ball to goddamn Saturn. Holy Moses. 000
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 27/08/2026FWIW, I don’t think this is as big a thing as some people do. They announced it before they started working him out at second bc they knew reporters were gonna ask questions. But they weren’t going to rush him over there before he was ready, and then he got hurt. 020
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 19/08/2026The defense is still a question mark, but Nats coaching has worked wonders with Keibert so I believe he could get to near-average defensively. The swing and miss is the biggest concern, but I firmly believe this guy has a future as at least a bat-first backup catcher in the bigs. 010
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 19/08/2026I was super impressed by Maxwell Romero, Jr. when I saw him live in Richmond earlier this year. Worked great ABs, made loud contact, and had an incredible defensive play. Last night he hit HR #20 on the year and he is annihilating AAA pitching in his first 21 games at the level. 100
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 19/08/2026It’s nice being a fan of an NL team and only having to be reminded every other year what a horrible viewing experience Rangers games are. 010
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 18/08/2026Always happy to share your excellent content with my tens of devoted followers. 020
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 18/08/2026God damn, what a great and heartbreaking story from Jesse. Sign this guy as a reliever and let him pitch an inning! He can’t be worse than the rest of our pen. 171
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 10/08/2026Fun fact: our nearly-everyday third baseman is quite literally the softest hitter in baseball. Excited to keep watching him play! 010
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 06/08/2026Hopefully he scores a run each time he comes to the plate for the rest of his career so this stat remains intact. Probably won’t though. 000
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 05/08/2026Ok new idea: we never play the Phillies again. Just hop on a plane in the morning and head back to DC. What’s the worst that can happen? 000
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 05/08/2026It’s unconventional I realize, but playing from ahead of the Phillies clearly does not work. So let’s give falling behind by a bunch a try! 000
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 04/08/2026I actually haven’t enjoyed watching us play the Phillies very much this season. 020
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 03/08/2026If Toboni (and of course Lerner) are really ready to go for it, look for them to add one high-end starting pitcher in the offseason and maybe plug a few holes on the infield with mid-tier FA signings. 020
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 03/08/2026Broad thoughts on this deadline: Toboni believes in this offense and has adjusted his timeline for contention. There are enough high-upside relief arms coming back that the bullpen could legitimately be a STRENGTH over the next two seasons. They also added badly needed rotation depth. 130
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 03/08/2026I continue to feel this way. I believe the plan was to hope for a huge year and then deal him for a Sotoesque return, and I still think that. It’s of course dependent on getting the big offer, but if Boston offers Arias + a couple high end pitching prospects, I think yesterday was CJs last Nats game 000
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 02/08/2026Nats bullpen badly needs swing and miss. Yovanny Cruz struck out 340 in 288 career minor league innings. 000
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 30/07/2026Even if they are, it has nothing to do with there not being a salary cap. A theoretical cap would be miles above what they are spending on payroll right now. The average Subway franchise has a higher payroll than we do. 100
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 30/07/2026What’s annoying about this conversation is that owning the team is profitable with or without a cap. Even if they operated at huge losses every year (which they don’t) the exponential growth of franchise valuations makes it a massively profitable enterprise. 100

And why did they feel comfortable giving up Mead? wfcg.substack.com/p/wfcg-11-na...wfcg.substack.comWFCG #11: Nats Send Mead to Boston for EarlyThe trade deadline came Early this year 055
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 27/07/2026Maybe the strategy is no matter who is in there late will blow an even moderately close game, so let’s fire our best pitching bullets early and hope we’re up 10 runs by the 6th inning. 020
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 27/07/2026If we shell Max today (on his 42nd bday) then we take the W and so be it. But if he looks really sharp against us, man it would be cool to flip a very low level prospect for him for the stretch run. 010
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 26/07/2026Replace Palmquist with Poulin and Cornelio with Alvarez and it looks even a little better. Although I’d prefer to keep Alvarez as a starter even when Irvin comes back and just yeet Miles Mikolas into the deepest part of the sea. 010
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 26/07/2026If the Nats trade for one serious reliever and DFA Krook, you could have a bullpen of: -New guy -Yean -Beeter -Ribalta -Kranick -Cosgrove -Cornelio -Palmquist You can kinda squint and maybe that’s not the worst bullpen ever assembled at least? 110
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 26/07/20262 run lead with 4 innings to go? Should be more than enough for this lockdown bullpen! 000
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 26/07/2026Young controllable starting pitching is the best thing we could acquire right now. So even though I’d really come to like Mead this feels like a good trade. Need to see spring training Brady House now. 030
Jared Calfee @jkcalfee.bsky.social · 25/07/2026Dylan Crews walked 4 times in May and June combined. He’s up to 13 in July. Looking much less frantic at the plate lately, if still not making as much hard contact as I’d like. 010
