Getting older is a blessing. I don’t get annoyed that the day is wrong, I don’t take it personally. Younger me, she did. Now what I see is that he has always consistently shown me care in a way he can’t with words and emotion. I legitimately appreciate the man who gets my birthday wrong.

This exchange is as deep as it gets with my former StepFather. My birthday isn’t today, it’s tomorrow. I get a text on every 6th without fail. I used to think he just had the day wrong. Now, I think it’s on purpose. He’s just saying “hey kid, I hope you’re good.” In a way he communicates.
