Spotted an Auplopus carbonarius in my mum's garden dragging a paralysed spider with its legs removed for easier transport. Eventually, the spider will serve as a meal for the wasp's offspring, which will hatch from an egg laid on the spider's exterior🕷️🖤📸 #nature #insect #spiderwasp #photography

"Viren in unserer Umwelt: besser als ihr Ruf" lautete das heutige Thema der internen Vortragsreihe am MPI Bremen, grandios präsentiert von Matthias Fischer ( @fischerlab.bsky.social ). Neben der essenziellen Rolle von Viren, wurden erste Ergebnisse der letztjährigen Alpenexpedition vorgestellt 🦠🏞🔬

This hardworking squirrel is my neighbor in Bremen, living in the big oak tree next to my apartment! 🐿️ I noticed it from my kitchen window, gathering moss from the tree bark – probably for a cozy, insulated nest during this cold, snowy weather❄️💪 #squirrel #bremen #nature #winter

🪲 Field note from Menorca 🇪🇸 Spotted a striking bloody-nosed beetle (Timarcha tenebricosa) on a roadside this morning. These flightless leaf beetles are slow-moving and exude a red defensive fluid (“nosebleed”) when disturbed - hence the name! #Entomology #FieldNotes #Menorca #Beetles #insects

The weather improved for our next tour in the Stubai Alps to Blaue Lacke (2287 m), Grünausee (2335 m), and Freiger See (2500 m), three mountain lakes above the treeline. Strenuous hikes alternated with wet & cold weather during filtration. #CAPSOLUTION @mpimarinemicrobio.bsky.social @erc.europa.eu
