Hey Josh, you missed on in this list. “An extended runway will necessitate a larger terminal and additional infrastructure — everything from utilities, taxi-ways, parking, luggage, de-icing, security, emergency services, roads, and transit.” How many of these in the daily traffic jams?

It wasn’t just opponents who helped stop it. The Transport Minister had consultation data but he also had advice from some of over 1,300 staff including 900 inspectors at the Civil Aviation Directorate informing his decision. They likely had substantial concerns that were passed on to the Minster.

Aviation is federal, not provincial. A responsible Minister of Transport would have listened to the public plus advice from more than 1,300 staff including 900 inspectors at the Civil Aviation Directorate before deciding on expansion and jets. There are likely many underlying safety issues there.

Jim Panou @jimpanou.bsky.social · 27/07/2026
The Transport Minister had the consultation data but also over 1,300 staff at the Civil Aviation Directorate advising him on matters related to the airport. Similar advice was given in 2015 to stop expansion and jets. Two attempts. Same result.

And in the U.S. to industry it could add up cumulatively.
If the U.S. imposes a 25% tariff on imported parts, a $55,000 Dodge minivan could rise to around $102,600 due to the cumulative effects of tariffs. Roughly 60% of the minivan's value ($33,000) comes from parts that cross the U.S.-Canada-Mexico borders multiple times. Each crossing incurs a 25% tariff, compounding the parts' cost. After four crossings, the imported parts' value grows from $33,000 to over $80,500, dramatically inflating the final price. This demonstrates how tariffs disrupt complex supply chains, turning incremental taxes into massive cost increases for consumers.
