It was gloomy weather today, but my walk across campus brightened up when I approached the Campanielle and thought to myself, “Was that Margaritaville?” which was followed by this classical composition I was able to capture on video.

Last year, I decided to challenge myself by writing a fantasy story, which I'd never done before (I mostly write literary or science fiction). I glad to share that the story, "A Song of Return," was just published today in Baubles from Bones. Check it out. www.baublesfrombones.com/a-song-of-re...

In the wake of ecological disaster, two rival nations come to a nervous agreement for the harvest. Featured in Baubles From Bones: Issue 6.

Quite a haul from Julie’s garden tonight.

So, August is when I have to start thinking seriously about fall, which is an unfair burden for a Friday. Therefore, I am officially deeming today “honorary July.”

Day 7: Oelwein to Guttenberg. Just to mix it up, today we had intermittent rain and three huge hills (hard on the way up, crazy-fast on the way down). Another great year riding #ragbrai2025 with #teamflamingo.

Day 5: Iowa Falls to Cedar Falls. Julie rode with me today and brought the best weather of the week with her. Great to get a night at home.

Day 4: Forest City to Iowa Falls. Did I say yesterday was the headwind day? I meant “today.” It was a hard and hot 72, but I somehow had a Maine lobster roll in the middle of it.

Day 2: Milford to Esterville with a dip into Minnesota. I’m not sure RAGBRAI’s first appearance in Minnesota merited a ceremonial coin, but that didn’t stop me from taking one.

Day 1: Orange City to Milton. A long 78 mile start. All went well until I got a slow leak at the end of the day. But with the kindness of strangers I was able to make it in to town to ride another day. Today, in fact.

On the road for RAGBRAI 2025. Though I had to fold myself in half to fit in the rumble seat for the ride west, I don’t get to complain because the teammate next to me is in his 70s and taking it all in stride. I’m going to think of it as a four-hour hamstring stretch to get ready for tomorrow’s ride

A summer rite of passage: I paused my training ride this morning to buy some sweet corn. RAGBRAI next week.

Here's the link to yesterday's Talk of Iowa episode, where I talked about Eddie Bowles's induction into the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame (www.iowapublicradio.org/podcast/talk...). It’s about the last 15 minutes. After the show, the weather got a little more sunny, and I was able to take this picture.

Last night, Eddie Bowles was posthumously inducted into the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame. I accepted the award on Eddie’s behalf, and Julie and I got to listen to some great music by this year’s other inductees and Hall of Fame alums. It was a memorable night.

It’s been great to have a full house this Thanksgiving Break. Many stories retold, much laughter, lots of Wicked analyses.
